And went to the cellar. It’s still unbelievable to fathom.

I don't even follow the NBA and thought that trade was absurd. Anthony Davis is often, I just checked now and saw he's still missing games and even on a different team now.

He should have been fired for even suggesting the trade

They did the same thing after winning it in 2011, pissed a lot of us fans off.

Chandler and Terry really hurt but I'd trade all 6 to get Luka back

Key players lost from the 2011 championship team included:

Tyson Chandler: Traded/let go to New York (signed 4-year, $56M deal).

Jason Terry: Left for the Boston Celtics.

J.J. Barea: Signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Caron Butler: Signed with the Los Angeles Clippers.

DeShawn Stevenson: Signed with the New Jersey Nets.

Peja Stojakovic: Retired.

The Buss family knew the Mavs GM was in the Epstein files so they made a deal.

There was some tomfoolery afoot when that deal happened.

One of two things caused the Luka trade.
1. Absolute & utter incompetence from Nico Harrison in making the worst trade in NBA history because of his perceived conditioning issues & not wanting to pay the super max plus he didn’t want Luka to be more powerful within the organization than him after signing the super max deal. I also think Nico didn't want a White European Superstar player being the face of the franchise & having more power than him.
2. The NBA forced him to do this to help the Lakers now that Cuban no longer had final say on personnel matters & the Vegas Adelson/Dumont ownership had absolutely no idea what they were doing.

We will find out over time what the truth is. Like the previous poster said, Nico should have been fired for even suggesting this trade. He froze out Cuban when he got control of that idiot Patrick Dumont who knows nothing about running a basketball franchise. There will be books & documentaries made about this trade & I am not sure the NBA wants people to really look into this.

LeBron has been promised a ring. When he wins that last ring he will retire and then the lakers will pick up two great players in his stead and will compete for years to come.

I absolutely believe the idea that Mavs traded Luka to flagship media market in a handshake agreement so that they’d get to draft Cooper Flagg. The odds were 1.8% they get top pick. They did a few months after Luka trade.

I strongly dislike Dallas in any sport. My Pelicans/Hornets have constantly gotten beat up by the Mavericks for as long as we’ve been in Nola (for the most part).

But damn… I really felt my heart drop for Mavs fans when I first saw that trade. I couldn’t fathom how upset I would have been if we traded CP3 in 2009 after losing in WCSF for example.

So by making this deal, the Lakers had the power to remove his name from these files? So what if his name is the files, alotta people names are, nothing will happen to them.

Yep there’s no way you can convince me there was some shady stuff going on. There’s absolutely no way that trade should have even been entertained. I’m not a conspiracy theorists but that trade sure did make me want to become one.

This is the way. Do you also believe that NO was gifted Davis years back? The NBA owned that franchise at the time and it was convenient that they got the #1 overall pick as a selling point.

This league cannot help itself.

Remember, Nico Harrison was Kobe Bryant’s shoe rep at Nike & Rob Pelinka was Kobe’s Agent. They have always been close since working together with Kobe. Fast forward & Nico is Mavs GM & Rob is Lakers GM. The story is they worked out this deal quietly just between them. I’m confident there is way more to what happened.

I would love for someone to dig in & find out the League was involved & expose them. Pablo Torre said he was at a party in L.A. over All Star weekend & 2 NBA owners came up to him separately & said they both think the lottery was rigged for the Mavs to get Flagg after the insane Doncic trade.

Even if Anthony Davis was an Iron Man it would have been an absolutely ridiculous trade. The fact that Anthony Davis was a walking DNP in his 20s and was moving into his 30s made it downright criminal. I usually cringe at conspiracy theorists, but goddamn, NOTHING about this trade made sense then or now.

* Trading a top 5 player
* Who's just now entering his prime
* Right after he carried you to the Finals
* Under the cover of night
* Without opening him up to other bids
* To THE premier franchise who the league has a vested interest in being good
* Who has an aging legend with a closing window that the league would LOVE to see go out with a storybook ending
* All for a completely unimpressive haul centered around an of-injured player who's moving out of his prime

Then the Mavs get the first pick in the draft right after

It's... A LOT to process and reconcile with. Either Nico is the dumbest motherfricker to EVER step foot into an NBA front office or there was chicanery afoot.

I guess gun to my head I still go with "Nico is the dumbest motherfricker to EVER step foot into an NBA front office," but maybe that's because I just don't want to go down the conspiracy rabbit hole and admit that one of the biggest leagues in the world is just outright blatantly rigged like that. But man alive, it almost feels like believing the "Nico is just dumb" excuse is a bigger leap of faith than believing the whole thing is some big fugazi.
