Is this what modern football is? Affected by name calling? Acts like one, gets called one. I am so sick of language being policed and European leagues overrun by sissies.

I really do not like Vini, and it doesn't hurt that I also detest Real Madrid.

What's funny is cheeky monkey is a thing in Britain. And it doesn't mean being black.

It's used to describe a child that acts up. Vini acts like a child.

Holy shite

Spain, Portugal, and Italy have legit issues with literal racism permeating their games. It's a real problem, not the made up racism stuff you see in the US or banning the "puta" chant of Mexico.

Vini has just been the guy facing it the most the past few years.

I just saw after posting t'Athletic has a very new article on this

quote:

The extent of the abuse Vinicius Jr has faced is shocking.

According to La Liga, there have been 26 incidents of racist abuse directed towards him, at 10 different football grounds in Spain, since October 2021.

That was when La Liga made its first official response to racist abuse of Vinicius Jr, filing a complaint to the Barcelona public prosecutor’s office after a Clasico at the Camp Nou that month.

Other high-profile incidents have included the racist chants directed towards him before, during and after a September 2022 league game at Atletico Madrid’s Estadio Metropolitano.

quote:

Then, Benfica published a social-media post with an accompanying video in which the club said it would have been impossible for any of Madrid’s players to have heard what Prestianni said to Vinicius Jr, claiming they were too far away. Speaking to reporters at the stadium after the game, Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe insisted he heard Prestianni “say that Vinicius is a monkey, five times”.

quote:

Footage from the match also appeared to show Benfica supporters making monkey gestures, apparently towards Vinicius Jr. When asked if Benfica were aware of this, a club source, who like all of those spoken to for this article, unless otherwise noted, asked to be kept anonymous to protect relationships, said they were not aware of any plans to respond or investigate further.

quote:

It is often heard from supporters at other clubs, after incidents of racist abuse take place involving Vinicius Jr, that Madrid have other Black players, such as Mbappe, Aurelien Tchouameni and Rodrygo, who are not targeted in this way. That is not correct — Mbappe and Rudiger have also been racially abused at Spanish football grounds in recent seasons.

So, it's only the high-profile black athletes on only the most successful of clubs' teams?

No.

LINK

quote:

Former Preston North End defender Bambo Diaby has demanded ‘strong sanctions’ after suffering racist abuse last weekend.

The incident involving the 27-year-old took place during Elche’s Segunda Division clash away to Sporting Gijón on Saturday. Diaby was an unused substitute on the day but still dealt ‘racist insults’ from an individual in the stand, while the El Molinón encounter took place.

That was a couple of weeks ago.

I know I already said that I do not like Vini, but I do believe him. Guess I'm just fatigued from all the racist BS that occurs in the US and is constantly highlighted in the media which is likely a fraction of what Vini actually has to deal with, and in some cases probably completely unfounded.

I'm sure ESPNFC spent an entire segment talking about this but wonder if they even touched on the incident in the article you provided or incidents involving lesser-known athletes.

What's that old adage? If you wake up and run into an a-hole during the day, he's the a-hole, but if you run into assholes all day, you're the a-hole.

i thought it was pretty comical how vini is supposedly called a monkey 5 times while Mbappe & especially Camavinga are standing right next to him yet neither of them reacted? To something that’s “so disgusting and racist”?? It’s also not lost on me or the broader public how it’s ALWAYS vini crying wolf about this. I’m not saying he’s never faced racism, i know it’s been documented, it’s just odd how it’s always something being done to him specifically and he’s never at fault for anything leading up to the incidents.

Of course though people in Brasil are aware of who he is and how he operates. There’s a reason why he isn’t adored in his home country and it’s not just because the seleção are shite

Vini is a grade a bitch and the boy who cried wolf. And most Spanish fans probably hate him now after he said Spain should be stripped of hosting the World Cup in 2030 if they don’t magically fix racism because all Spaniards are racist apparently.

The irony of it all.

It is interesting because it would be backing UEFA into a corner, I know it’s Spanish but essentially if they sanction Prestianni then UEFA will have to apply the anti-homophobia protocol to Mbappé as well for the insults to Gianluca

If they don’t then it would clearly expose this as bullshite and favoritism to Real Madrid

What absolute pussies.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH DADDY!!!!! HE CALLED ME A NAAAAAAAAAAAME.

Meanwhile we have the Olympic hockey gold medal game and Jack Hughes scores the winner for USA after having a tooth sheared off by a high stick earlier in the game! And these EuroNinnies can't handle trash talk (I admit I don't like trash talk, but still.) Professional athletes have to be tougher than that.

What insults? I googled and didn't find anything other than this X post

What's crazy is that Real's biggest issue this year is energy and team cohesion and this could galvanize them. I certainly expect them to beat the living shite out of Benfica on the return leg.
