The Louisiana Department of Health has implemented the state’s SNAP Food Restriction Waiver, aimed at encouraging families receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits to make healthier food choices.
quote:
Under the waiver, restricted items include:
Soft drinks: Carbonated, nonalcoholic beverages that contain high-fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners. The restriction does not include flavored carbonated water, milk or milk substitutes, or drinks with cane sugar, monk fruit sweeteners, other natural sweeteners, or beverages containing more than 50% fruit or vegetable juice by volume.
Energy drinks: Beverages with added stimulants, such as caffeine, guarana or taurine, often labeled as enhancing energy, alertness or performance.
Candy: Sugary preparations with chocolate, fruit or nuts, including bars, drops or pieces, and candy that contains flour. The restriction does not include protein bars, granola bars or baking ingredients such as chocolate chips or sprinkles.
SNAP supports approximately 750,000 Louisianans each month, providing food assistance. Health officials said pairing the waiver with the expanded Louisiana Carrot Initiative is intended to make it easier for families to choose nutritious options and strengthen the program’s impact.

taxpayers do not need to pay for diabetes.

I do not have an issue with this. It should be essential items only. WIC has way more restrictions than SNAP.

The only issue I have is it doesn't go far enough.

What would happen in the South if we just axed SNAP altogether?

What? So people can buy Mexican coke but not regular coke with their food stamps? What are we doing here?

I can't fathom that nearly 17% of our population is on SNAP

There will be one million videos from SNAP recipients melting down in convenience stores. Many people will be arrested over this.

axed
Most recipients would be curious as to SNAP's answer to whatever question you pose.

This has seemed like a no-brainer for thirty years.

Gotta keep cane farmers fed (and donating to campaign funds), I guess.

An exponential increase in buffet theft.

That's ok. Won't stop me from selling my food stamps for 80 cents on the dollar...

Can the taxpayers support 750,000 people on welfare? The population of the state is 4.6 million. How many of those 4.6 million are working or retired taxpayers?

No one is embarrassed that 1/6 Louisiana residents is on SNAP?
