John now has 7 hits at LSU. 3 of them are homers and 1 of them is a double.

It's been a really small sample size, but you could argue its even harder to hit for power with this sort of limited and unpredictable playing time. On a team that does not project to have a lot of power, it is going to be hard to keep him out of a starting spot somewhere on the field.

If he gets regular run, he could be a 15 homer kind of guy this season.

I think at the very least, he should be the DH vs left handed pitching.

I think our so called projected power is underrated

Thought the same thing last season early on but then good pitching came into play and it worked itself out.

We are stacked with hitters. Simpson has 37 career HRs, 22 just last year and hes fighting for a spot in our lineup.

And it always will. You always think you have more bats than spots. Then you stop facing future accountants and HVAC repair men.

But, I think John will get a lot of run when some of those spots open up.

Yep, John can really swing the stick. He looks stronger and more athletic this year. I hope he sees more playing time this year.

We seem to have power 1-9 in the order. (Well 1-8 as Stanfield might get us 1-2 homers)

Curriel/Milam/Carraway aren't power hitters, but any of these guys can get you 10+ this year for sure.

Serna is a future star that Jay wants in the lineup enough to keep happy, as he did with Arrambide last year. Serna is the likely DH over Pearson vs LHP. You also have Simpson, with a history and track record that make him very hard to keep out of the lineup. In other words, Pearson may be very good, but there are better RH hitters in front of him. While we expect Pearson to improve over last year, he may hit hard, but he still k'd 9 times in 21 ABs.

I'd love to see Pearson get more chances, but I don't see him surpassing what's in front of him this year. It would be great, but I'm not betting on it.

The cream rises to the top. As much as people forget, we simply don’t have so many great bats that people can’t find a spot.

Pearson is a team leader and favorite of his teammates when you see them interacting

They only let us bat 9 at a time. Jay almost always figures how to get more bats involved throughout a game, though. Pearson will get some starts at DH.

I think Serna will eventually settle into backup catcher only, similar to Arrambide last year. Arrambide didn’t DH much last year, he was primarily Luis’ backup.

As for Simpson, I think he should be in the lineup vs lefties too, but at 2B. Simpson is our only right handed hitting second baseman, so I like him there vs lefty pitchers. Or you could put him in LF while Stanny’s out.

Just happy that we have no breaks in this lineup.

sure, but a hitting a center cut 87mph fastball doesn't tell us much. Pearson will have to out hit and play better defense than whomever he is theoretically replacing. Im not sure he has a lane at 1B or DH at the moment except maybe when a LHP is slated to start occasionally

Unfortunately there’s many that are hard to keep out of lineup. Good problem to have
