Brad Reese, 70 – whose grandfather HB Reese invented the famous treat – claimed Hershey has swapped out milk chocolate for cheap compound coating made from vegetable oils. He also claims Hershey has sneakily replaced real peanut butter with peanut-butter flavored cremes.

I do find now that they have some waxy type of coating that is very noticeable.

I don't know about this one. You can clearly see tiny bits of peanut in the filling.

I did some work at a Hershey plant a few years ago. The chocolate was pumped through pipes as a paste. I have no idea what went into it.

The peanuts were actually roasted onsite then sent over too the main building through pneumatic tubes. They were most definitely real peanuts. It smelled incredible outside of the rooster building. The peanut butter also had a roasted flavor in the peanut butter cups that came right off the line.

America has less and less real food left anymore it seems. It's bizarre how chemistry in the name of profit has taken over simple ingredients.

I’ve had a few of the mini’s and they are definitely not the same quality as in the past.

Definitely agree they have switched to pushing the line for the cheapest ingredients without completely altering the label. Waxy and not even fair chocolate.

*BMI +30. I am qualified to pass a taste, texture and aftertaste judgement.

Cadbury did this same shite with the eggs. And they charge more than ever.

I can guarantee your arse Reese's did this.

My mother is a huge fan of peanut butter cups. A couple of years back, I hooked her up with Trader Joe’s versions (milk, dark, and mini.) She switched over from Reese’s, and hasn’t looked back.

The texture of the filling is definitely different.

They’re still delicious. Even better when you fry them.

Probably pieces of soy beans or worse, micro-plastics.

In a related topic, I'm fairly certain the Butterfinger bars I grew up loving have been significantly downgraded as well.

Not sure about the chocolate but as soon as you touch it, it seems to melt on your hands.

The Easter ones that are shaped like eggs are still the greatest candy of all time. They are perfect.

All of the holiday shaped ones are superior. It’s the ratio of chocolate to PB filling. It’s a better ratio than the regular cups.

Reese’s, like all new candy companies back then had to buy all their chocolate from Hershey. He had a monopoly on it. Besides being the best, he was nearly the only one who could make it. So he was magnanimous and sold to his competitors, even backing some of them. Otherwise a lot of candy bars we enjoy today may never have made it to store shelves.
