The “Even Stevens” actress, 41, said she and her husband Brendan Rooney both chose to get cancer screenings, partly because her family has a history of the disease and partly because of her relationship with “Dawson’s Creek” star James Van Der Beek, who passed away last week at the age of 48 from colorectal cancer.
Yahoo!
In light of the passing of James Van Der Beek this is yet another reminder for everyone to get their colonoscopies. Best of luck to Christy and hope she has a positive outcome!

The report analyzed annual U.S. mortality rates from 1990 to 2023 for the top five deadliest cancers for men and women younger than 50 years old—an age group that researchers have been tracking to understand early-onset cancer risk. Encouragingly, cancer mortality overall in the age group decreased by 44 percent. But rates of colorectal cancer among younger people have been steadily increasing in recent decades, and the disease has leaped from the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths in 1990 to the first in 2023.
“It is an inflection point,” says William Dahut, chief scientific officer at the American Cancer Society. “This is the first time it’s number one for cancer deaths overall for those under the age of 50.”

I had to get a colonoscopy when I was 25 for some stuff I was dealing with postpartum. I had a few pre cancerous polyps they removed, so now I have to get them every few years, most recent as last year where I had a few removed again. Had I waited till 40 idk what. They aren’t that bad and so worth the prevention.

A serious thread about the rise in colon cancer and nothing but coomer posting.

That's excellent news but brutal that you had to start at 25.
The prep sucks but it's worth it for the early detection.
I had my first a couple weeks ago at 36. I had some abdominal pain and I have family history of polyps so I got checked.
I'm all clean and no issues. I will go back again at 40.

She has not been diagnosed with cancer:
I am all for screenings. I am all for people taking care of themselves. I hope she does not have cancer. But, she should get a diagnosis before she spouts off online.

Romano acknowledged that the positive results from her screening do not mean she actually has cancer. She laid out her plan to get a PET scan in order to determine if an actual diagnosis should be made, but also revealed she is currently “fighting” with insurance companies to have the cost of the scan covered.

If you find out you have colon cancer from symptoms, you have around a 10% chance of survival.
If you catch it prior to symptoms, it's almost 100%
My brother died from it at 49 (almost 8 years ago). He fought it for 3 years and it was horrible.

Not only should you get your screenings, but people should not skip routine annual checkups. I got a multiple myeloma diagnosis from a routine blood test that had only a high protien count and slight anemia. Thankfully, my doctor didn't shrug it off because I'm about 30 years away from the median age, and ordered more tests. It was caught early and my prognosis is good as a result.
