How busy you think it is being the day after Mardi Gras?

Hoping it’s light and I get released early

The courthouse looks like it's going to be busy, but there are very few trials on the docket for both criminal and civil. Doesn't mean that one of them isn't set to go, though.

If you aint smart enough to get out of it you aint smart enough to be on a Jury.

I don’t think they let you out of it easily
I had it last week but was excused due to a medical procedure
Had to provide a signed letter from my Dr.
Was told I would be assigned a date in July then received a letter with the new date saying I would not be excused for any reason

They don't. Even attorneys who work at the courthouse all the time still have to show up and go through the process.

It's a rare chance for you to be a judge. Serve your fellow citizens and our society in general in maintaining a system that is more fair than anywhere else in the world - where other citizens have an important part. Take it seriously and do your best.

buddy of mine is a judge. He told me that "they need you; they just don't want YOU." I was dismissed.

Not what I’m asking at all. I’m talking about showing up and then being released.

I got summoned for the second time in less than a year in Houston. One of the requirements is being able to speak English so I guess that eliminates at least half the city.

you can’t

Teachers are excused, but I homeschool my kids and am not excused. I asked why and was told that obviously I have a baby sitter for my kids while I was at the courthouse, and I said ‘well, don’t the teachers get substitutes?’

I was told to sit down and be quiet (this was not the time I was pregnant)

You can always borrow wisdom from George Carlin….

Getting out of jury duty is easy, simply look at the judge and say “I’d make a terrific juror…. you should pick me because I can spot guilty people (fingers snap) just like that!”

Affluent people not wanting to be at jury duty is a huge issue with our system. Makes every urban prosecutor scared that they could end up with a jury that is full of crime sympathizers, mamas of criminals, or criminals themselves so they end up cutting deals in cases they’d rather not because the jury draw is just too risky.

Orleans Parish?

If so toss in the trash, they don’t send them certified so you never received it.
