What is the purpose of the raised black wall behind center field?

Seems like we could utilize that better, as opposed to it just being a solid black wall. I bet a few companies would pay big money to advertise there.

It’s for the hitters so they can identify pitches more easily.

Called the batters eye. Give the batters a solid background to see the ball better

It is called a batter’s eye. It is intentionally solid to help make the ball visible for the batter.

Assuming this is a troll

The batter has to be able to see the ball. Can’t see ball when looking into colors and lights.

It used to be white but it after all the BLM stuff in 2020, Woodward made Mainieri change it to black.

Now, it's still black because Jay didn't want to mess with tradition.

If you’ve ever played pitch and catch against a solid white background you’ll soon realize how freakin dangerous it is to not be able to see the ball. Especially if its coming at you 90+
