The SAVE act: why not take some of this saved DOGE money to PAY for the IDs directly?

By googles estimation, there are up to 34 million adult American citizens without IDs that would be valid for voting. Up to. It could be far less.
Let’s say out of those 34 million, half are financially needy. The average material cost for a state ID is $6.50
Instead of spending billions overseas for laundering purposes, why don’t we just stop sending out ridiculous foreign aid, and take 100 million dollars to pay the ids through the state’s DMVs and call it a day
This this stupid “MUH COSTS OF IDS IS RACIST” argument is over.

I don't think this subset of people care to do the work it takes to get an ID... it's not about the cost.

we should. but the thing is it’s not actually the issue
even with this, the Dems will say it’s a lack of internet access or paper access or mail access to get the forms or collect the documents needed to get the free ID
even if you said it would be personally delivered they will say it disenfranchises people who move a lot and don’t know their current address, battered women who had to escape to a shelter and don’t want anyone to know where they are, those in rural areas who’s houses you can’t reach, homeless people, those in rehabs, etc. it never ends when they don’t want anyone to take any accountability for their circumstances and any time of effort is considered a burden/hurdle

We know that - but this undercuts the only “viable” argument against it
Now they would be forced to come out and make their real arguments - which are they need the fraud to survive

That is a great idea. I certainly believe in a literacy test as well. Either we can move governed with brilliance or ignorance.

Because it’s not a burden to require people to pay $20.00 for a driver’s license or even less for an ID. The entitlement mentality in this country is a cancer and it’s getting worse.

First off, you're obviously racist!
Secondly, it's not FedGov's bidness to subsidize their ID's. Dems have essentially admitted their constituents are too dumb to know how to get an ID. Perhaps the DNC should pay for them.

Good point.
Problem is they'd take you up on it and start hosting ID drives...
So then we'd be paying for them to STILL game the system and round up disinterested people, one stop shopping for ID, voter registration and ballot request.

Providing IDs for all citizens is one use if tax money I would support.

Dems would sue, Boasberg type would rule in their favor.

It isn’t about the cost ….
It isn’t about the level of education…
It isn’t about disenfranchising citizens…
It’s about swaying election results.

Correct.
Also, why should we take any type of funds to pay for something all Americans should have and be able to get by themselves or with the help of friends or family.
Teach a man to fish and such.

Most states offer a free ID for voting purposes.
And if you are too lazy to bother with the process, you likely are not voting anyway

I’m all for having to present an ID to vote as I have to do anyway in Louisiana. It dawned on me this morning that my 90 year old father doesn’t have a driver’s license anymore because he doesn’t drive anymore. He still is sharp as a whip and stays up to date on politics. How would this work older people that no longer have driver’s license anymore? Would a different ID card be issued by the government?

At some point a line has to be drawn and if someone is not willing to put in a little effort to get an id card, they don't deserve all the efforts made to help them
Posted on 2/16/26 at 11:27 am to theunknownknight
Because we already have funds and programs that pay for free photo ID for those people who can't afford it.
This problem is already solved.

In most states you can either get a non-drivers photo ID or a photo voter's ID.

There are already policies that exist which pay for IDs when needed. Money is not the issue.
In fact, there is no issue.

What is there to stop the dems from making fake ID's
Posted on 2/16/26 at 11:31 am to theunknownknight
How about just go get the damn ID like everyone else on the planet
