What’s the king or queen spend once announced to actually be king/queen?

350
Plus 2 more zeros

I’m not sure about Endymion but in the old line krewes Maid = down payment on a house and Queen = full cost of a house.

Way more than that. That’s less than the king and queen of Neptune in Biloxi these days.

I am born and raised in south Louisiana. Went to high school in NOLA. Went to tons of parades in my lifetime. Have intentionally been skipping Mardi Gras for the past 10 years. It has run its course in my life and Im no longer interested.
This question has me bewildered. I am shocked people pay that kind of money to pretend to be a part of a blue blood monarchy.
They couldn't pay me $100k to be in any parade.
People paying that kind of money, for what??
Is this some type of status symbol for morons?
What is the payoff if that is the expenditure?
If that is for Endymion, what does it cost for Rex???
I don't get it.

I got enough of it while attending LSU and the years around it, We went 8 years in a row and I got my fill.
But If we lived closer I'd probably go, my bro in law rides in one of the big parades.

The cost of course varies, because some Krewes are more old money and others are more new money. The new money will be somewhat less, but in general, the all-in cost for queen, which includes favors for the court and the parents, the parade costume, the post parade outfit, the ball outfit, plus the associated parties the queen's family hosts is about $30K.

King prob doesn’t cost hardly anything. It gets announced by raffle 2-3 weeks before the parade.
The Queen however has been on the list for 10+ years and once selected they have to throw a big party that is similar to a wedding reception. Depending on how much money they blow could be 20-100k

They asked my old man to partake in MG festivities one year in NWLA, join the krewe etc.
He asked what it involved and his friend said 10-15K.
Dad - "I would consider it for 20K"
Roasted!

You sound like the life of the party to hang with.

So buy a house that will put a roof over your head and increases in value
or
spend that money on plastic beads to throw to strangers for a couple of hours once a year who leave them on the ground

I am with stunna. Couldnt pay me to attend any mardi gras event. From the videos and pictures sent to me yesterday from parades it looks like the definition of hell. Only thing i could imagine to be worse would be a cruise.

You’d do it for a 6-pack of Busch lite, zen pouches and a cold boudin link, cher

A lot. $30-40k.
I never put my ticket in for the drawing when I rode.

I totally agree with you, and that’s in my grounded personality.
But then I think about the filthy global cabal types, and I recognize that many people are simply drawn to the centers of power and elitism. I guess pretending to be royalty with a bunch of New Orleans snobs is better than Epstein Island shenanigans.

A big reason is connections. Lawyers, contractors, politicians, sales. Same with country clubs.

Also, it’s hard for some of us to understand, but to certain people spending six figures on something just isn’t that big of a deal. They got money to burn.
