My ole pawpaw said don't keep your money in a 401k, use it to buy land. Somebody's gonna pillage that pile of money one day, and land is one thing that we aren't likely to start printing more of.

Taxing unrealized capital gains is by far the most retarded thing any socialist/communist/marxist has ever dreamed up. Besides the fact that it kills any normal person investing (which is probably the point) it wouldn't give you any of that money back when you lose. Insane and anyone who proposes it should never see office again in the real world. This would literally cripple the stock market as an investment tool and no one would be able to invest or make money that way again.

Yeah the only way it could even conceivably “work” is if you could deduct unrealized losses. Have a real-time constant tracking and payment/refund system. While some day in an AI cashless society maybe that technically works. But what is even the point?
So the point is to plunder. Obviously.

Imagine buying a stock and it increases in value by $10,000 in one year and you still own it. You would owe $3,600 on that increase of the value of the stock. It’s pure insanity. You’re literally paying taxes to own a stock.

Land or mineral owner has several hundred million dollars worth of oil, gas, and other minerals and that gain has not been realized. The seismic surveys and geophysical reports are what proves the resource potential.
