KATC Report: Crawfish are cheaper than they were at this time in 2024

Heading into the peak of the season, we reached out to several boiling spots to find out how they're feeling about the season so far, and we're hearing positive things. Despite the freeze that put a damper on the first few weeks, Jett's Crawfish Drive-Thru in Rayne said they believe "the crawfish will soon be plentiful, as we have already started to see an increase in crawfish starting this week now that the weather has warmed up."
Brad Boulet, the new owner of Boulet's Boil-N-Go in Rayne, said "We're looking forward to a promising season!"
When you compare this week's prices across Acadiana to those we saw in February of 2024, it does look like quite a promising season. So far, prices are looking lower than they were the season after the summer 2023 drought. With Lent being earlier this year, we don't have prices from this time in 2025 to compare.
After surveying 29 restaurants across eight parishes in Acadiana, we found the average price for five pounds of boiled crawfish as of Feb. 12 is $43.35. That's an average of $8.67 per pound.

President Trump is making crawfish cheap again.

Just wait until crawfish farmers find out they could be charging more…

While cheaper, that is way too expensive.
Five pounds is maybe enough for one serving of 1 pound of meat.

That’s funny because the local media has already been blaming potentially high crawfish prices on a new cause - ICE running off illegal immigrant workers.

It actually takes anywhere from 6 to 7 lbs. of crawfish to yield 1 lb. of crawfish meat.

Wasn’t 2024 the year after the drought when prices were the worst ever? I sure as hell hope they are cheaper than that!

Crawfish isn’t worth it until they get to under 5 boiled and 3 live. But of course there are people buying at 10!

Well...I committed yesterday to paying $5.25-5.50/lb for a sack of live out here in Texas so my wife can have her first boiled crawfish of the season on Valentines Day.
Yes, I am a sucker and love her very much.

I have never boiled a crawfish in the month of February. I don't think I ever boiled a sack before Easter up until a few years ago. And I'm still worn out on them by June.

You usually eat 1lb of meat in a meal?

Don’t feel bad you’re not alone. Your wife will appreciate it, hopefully you get the max amount of brownie points lol

Yeah it was. Crawfish will hopefully never be that expensive again.

You know, it'll beat the shite out of trying to go eat at a restaurant tomorrow with everyone else and servers trying to rush you out the table so they can sit the next scheduled party. She and I may go have a nice lunch somewhere today, but crawfish tomorrow at the house is going to be nice and relaxing.

Good to hear so now maybe my next crawfish boil won't be another expensive disaster
The wind kept blowing out my fiya

My supplier says that the crawfish just went through a molt and that deliveries right now will have a few more dead ones than usual and that in two weeks stocks and size will be much better

I remember paying 99 cents a pound for boiled crawfish in the early nineties. People griped when they went up to 1.29. Don’t want them bad enough to pay the price nowadays.
