Ford might be losing money on EV's, but they aren't losing money overall.

Reuters
I love this part.
DETROIT, Feb 11 (Reuters) - Ford Motor (F.N), opens new tab CEO Jim Farley told employees in a town hall on Wednesday that companywide bonuses would be set to 130%, according to four people familiar with the matter, as the automaker delivered on its goal to improve vehicle quality.
Farley told attendees that the higher payouts are mainly due to the automaker’s improved initial vehicle quality, which measures repairs in the first 90 days of ownership. Farley said the metric is the best it has been in a decade, two of the people said.

Are these vehicle manufacturers getting federal money for EV research?
That would explain it all.
quote:
Manufacturers are receiving billions in federal funding for EV research, development, and production through the DOE, IRA, and IIJA, focusing on battery supply chains, component manufacturing, and facility conversions. Major recipients include Toyota ($9.7M for battery life) and the US Advanced Battery Consortium ($60M), alongside $50M for retooling smaller suppliers.

Yes, U.S. vehicle manufacturers and suppliers are receiving significant federal funding for electric vehicle (EV) research, development, and manufacturing conversion. Through the DOE and programs like ARPA-E, millions are awarded for battery research, while initiatives like the $2 billion Domestic Manufacturing Conversion Grant help re-tool facilities.

bullshite, since Covid you've continued price gouging your customers.

I just thought it was funny because his measure for initial quality was the first 90 days of ownership. High bar you set for Ford, Farley.

Ford didn't set it. That's been the metric for IQ since before I went into the industry in the 1980's.

I bought a ton of Ford stock over the years when it was under $10, and with the handsome dividend it is probably the highest performing stock in my portfolio with the dividends paying dividends which pay dividends, even though the equity side of it fluctuates.
I know I know.... Money Board.

That’s why we’re all paying a damn fortune for what everyone wants to buy…an F150. Imagine how’d they do if they didn’t have to offset the cost of that EV bullshite.

I'm more concerned with reliability at 10 years

Sorry, for Ford the mark is 90 days.

Those that buy gas or diesel vehicles pay more to subsidize the price of EVs.

JD power 90 day initial quality is a huge thing in the auto industry and has been for decades.

The money they are losing on EVs is only temporary. With the battery technology rapidly improving, EV’s are going to make more sense. Ford will benefit in the long run.

Cut the govt EV money off and let's revisit this statement.

It was online only 6 months.

The charging of these batteries is still dependent on diesel. It will be for the foreseeable future until OKLO delivers on its small nuclear generators. Those generators are going to be made for the data centers first, hopefully by 2030. Not for EV charging stations.
EVs are an inflation medium for the auto industry. The better battery fallacy was a pure BS talking point to keep the subsidy flowing. Those EV subsidies have not been renewed last time I checked. Nothing about an EV improves the environment, those batteries are pure waste when they are expired.

Still interested in the EREV F-150. I may buy one if my current truck holds out for a couple more years. Hybrids were the tech we should have embraced 10 years ago. Looks like it may release this fall or winter. Probably give it a year before purchasing though.

Right. “Quality” in this context is not the same thing as “reliability.” And it’s not a Ford-specific metric.
It’s basically measuring how happy buyers are with their new car purchase. That’s it.
