Who are the idiots who popularized tattoos over the past few decades?

How did the movement even get going?

Wasting money on trashy tattoos is one of the most useless things possible. They’re ugly, trashy, and indicate that someone makes poor life decisions. I have a cousin with dumb tattoos who’s always asking me when I’m coming to “get some ink”

It’s getting harder and harder to find clean cut individuals wish mot tattoos.

It's a fad. Your friends get them, so you do.

It's also a family standards thing. Some families it is not acceptable - disowned.

When conservatives capitulated on the drug war instead of banning marijuana every where.

Pot use is entertwined with awful tattoos.

Get rid of pot.
And tattoo culture goes with it

Shut it Stacy. Toughest thing you did this week was get on TD and whine about tattoos. Your mom know you’re up posting this late?

it's connected to the rise of rap/thug culture

thug culture is tied to prison, and in prisons tattoos are a requirement

in prisons sagging pants are a sign of sexual availability

You think this is why so many young women out here have wrist tats and 6 piercings in their ears with a short haircut wearing men's style shirts trying to be like a dude?

No brah... it's a trend they follow from what their friends do.

Heeeey, you started the weekly OT tattoo bitching thread. Congrats! I'm sure this one will cover so much new ground.

It seemed like they were a subculture before grunge. I don't remember anybody in my high school in the '80s that had tattoos.

I'll never forget the day in '92 when my girlfriend showed up with a tribal tramp stamp. Soon after it became something everybody was doing to be different.

Tattoos have been around since the dawn of man.

Recent American culture has taken it mainstream.

I would credit Dennis Rodman and Allen Iverson as major contributors to helping this fad take off.

Tattoos were once seen as a rebellion against normal culture, shows individuality and conveys a hard toughness, callous, care-less attitude. Today everyone seems to have one. Some have deep meaning, while others mean absolutely nothing.
