USA should pay their olympians to train like most countries. In the USA not only do they not pay you, you must pay them to train you. Until this is fixed I don't blame any athlete for competing for another country. Plus china offered her millions to represent them. Would you turn it down?

LOL. She's making MILLIONS from endorsements because she was born in America and originally competed for team USA and born into very a affluent
family.
It's not like she had to struggle for years in a innocuous sport like luge or curling.She's 23 years old

So your saying if someone offered to pay youn a six figure salary and pay for you to train you would turn it down to pay for your own training?
Yes china paid her million plus she has endorsements that would be the same. I am just disappointed the USA treat their athletes bad, Lets get to the elite level like all the other countries.

What are you talking about? In the US, all the athlete have their personal coaches that they choose to train with all year long. From these coaches, mostly based on the athletes that qualify, National Team Coaches are chosen for the Olympics. We don't have athletes all living together and training together, nor would they want that. National team athletes do get monthly stipends for training, but no, it doesn't cover all their costs. However, top athletes usually have endorsements and sponsorships as well.
Not saying they are all doing great, but top athletes are probably doing quite well in the more well known sports.

Was Duplantis raised in to one of the wealthiest zip codes in the country?

Do you really think China is a role model when it comes to selecting and training Olympic athletes?
Any idea of how they do it and how they dispose of athletes who don't make the cut?

I think the biggest issue for a lot of people is that NBC is treating her like she is representing the USA, when she’s not.

He's not wrong in that we have a shitty system for US athletes unless they're big names who generate endorsements. More than a few of those folks end up on government assistance while they train because of the limitations of working while training for certain sports. Or trying to afford living near/at the US Olympic Training facilities.
But I still wouldn't go as a top athlete to compete for somewhere like China. You're right on that.

Uh, yeah, I would. While you might not believe me when I say this, I have integrity and I would never represent a country whose government is currently involved in the persecution of Christians and the internment of Muslims. Not only that, they have yet to face any kind of punishment for unleashing a virus onto the world and causing a global pandemic that we are still recovering from six years later.

It really depends on the country. Some countries that have state run programs (not just China and Russia which are a different beast) are typically funded throughout the process. France and Spain are probably the best comparable examples of this. The US relies heavily on private funding, clubs, etc. so it can be incredibly difficult if you're not heavily sponsored.
Now it can get complicated in state run programs when it comes to expectations if you specialize under state funding for a long time. They want results and all of that.
ETA: It's why a lot of US athletes go the collegiate route in those not as visible sports. But that's only working for sports that are emphasized in college (most winter sports are not).

See I knew you double standards would come out. And yes Americans go to the Olympics under different countries all the time. I know if someone offered you 20 million to compete for them versus 0 for the other team you would do it too.

Besides, it's obvious that the ChiComs gave her the money with the stipulation that she makes anti-American statements. Anyone denying this is either extremely stupid or naive - or both. She sold her country out for a few shekels. Let her live with the infamy.
