Gen Z: ages 15-29.

On Fox News just now, citing the WSJ.

Scores across all areas, from math to science to English to history to reading comp to iq, are all down.

They are the first generation to be dumber than previous generations.

They’re also fatter too.

A lack of development of critical thinking skills, limited breadth and shallow exposure to subjects seem to be the causes. In short, a failure of teachers, parents, and too much screen time.

Here’s the NY Post:
quote:

“They’re the first generation in modern history to score lower on standardized academic tests than the one before it,” Dr. Jared Cooney Horvath, 43, told The Post. “And to make matters worse, most of these young people are overconfident about how smart they are. They underperformed on basically every cognitive measure, from basic attention, memory, literacy, numeracy, executive function and general IQ.” Horvath, who studied reams of data from standardized academic tests, told Congress that Z’s struggles stem from the fact that they’re the first generation to grow up with constant screen time. And it’s no substitute for real learning.

“More than half of the time a teenager is awake, half of it is spent staring at a screen,” said Horvath, who’s taught at universities around the world, including Harvard and the University of Melbourne in Australia. “Humans are biologically programmed to learn from other humans and from deep study, not flipping through screens for bullet point summaries.”

With the woke teacher's unions and all the Karen's teaching them, is it any wonder?

I made reference to this in a thread on the OT, but societal progress isn't typically in a straight line. The problem is going to be how we respond when given clear data on developing societal pathology.

The Covid school policies were a disgrace and I was highly critical of them in real time, along with many others on here. We called this. The crazy part is that I bet the SES stratification is incredibly wide following the Covid years. People in higher SES and of better culture didn't quit on their kids I would bet. If this is true, then the impacts on the lower rungs of the SES ladder are even larger than this data indicaets.

They wont touch the real reason why those numbers are down with a ten foot pole.

Anyone willing to take a guess?

Our trash problem has been showing up in standardized test scores for at least 50 years. This isn't a recent development.

This is about Covid, screens, obesity, and ineffective teaching methods that have become engrained across the country for some reason.

Yet, it's the older, white liberals we see out there protesting against ICE and our federal laws. Just look at them...most are women that seem to be lonely and just want to belong. Most are fat, ugly vile human beings who find excitement in the chaos.
As far as the men...well, let's just say they feel like manly men until they don't. Much like the Pretti guy who was an outright coward. Bad boy spitting and cursing at ICE agents while they were in the vehicle ready to pull away until bad boy kicks the tail light off of the vehicle and the agent gets out. He runs screaming like a little bitch and the agent manhandles him. He ain't bad anymore!

I still remember red ink from a teacher on one of my assignments. It was a big frowny face with the words INEXCUSABLE! DO BETTER!!!

It motivated me. I did better.

What do you think that is?

Entrenched special interest control by teachers unions?

Failures of allocation of resources, such as too much for technology and not enough on quality control (because it’s lazy and easier)?

Corruption (financial as well as ideological) of resources and materials?

But something tells me that you would protest any attempt at taking education away from government even though our government has shown zero ability to educate children.

I don't know.

the808bass posted a story about how our educational system, basically nationwide, adopted an ineffective reading technique. Blue state and red state, it made no difference. And after years of data showing it was bad, they kept using it. This was more an example of corporate/lobbying influence creating a cult-like scenario than a political basis.

They don't read.
They can't write.
They can't reason.

They are nothing more than fodder for the coming Marxist revolution.

This is beyond COVID. COVID was bad enough but my kids had Chromebooks well before COVID.

The outsourcing of grading to computers and the replacement of textbooks is probably the single greatest crime against kids in terms of education.

This particularly affects boys more than girls.
