Can significant weight loss change your brain chemistry?

Between September of ‘24 and March of ‘25 I lost 75 pounds and have kept it off with proper diet and exercise. I’m now 6’1” and 180 and feel great. I have noticed that my mind tends to “obsess” over certain things now and my interests have changed some. Kind of feels like what I’ve read a mid-life crisis is. Not a fan of this.

You probably obsess over things that keep you in a maintenance mindset, also that was more than likely one of the best decisions youve ever made for yourself by starting that journey, congrats baw

Indirectly, maybe? I’d guess the direct cause is probably more diet/hormone related. “Feel good foods” do just what they say they do. But I’m guessing you’ll normalize if you stay with it.
And, congrats and good on ya!

Yes. It can make you more mindful of mortality. Being obese carries a lot of food noises in the consciousness.

Yes. Basic endocrinology confirms this

I’m down ~40 lbs or so since about July. My mind isn’t any different, but it’s definitely noticeable how much better I feel these days. When I play sports, for example, I’ll be sweating my arse off yet not feel winded or out of breath at all really. It’s nice.
Even had to start using lower belt holes as well. Had to create a new one a few days ago.
I don’t really have a goal weight, as mine was more of a lifestyle change I was going for more than anything else. I don’t “eat healthy,” so mine is more a mix of eating less unhealthy, some fasting, and doing a few workout/exercise type things (the ole Walton & Johnson “eat less, move around more”). I’ve found a few things that I like and try to stick with it. And it’s working decently so far. I did lose 20 lbs very quickly and then plateaued. But I finally pushed through and lost more in the last month or two.

I lost 30 in a period of about six-seven months, not on purpose. Looked like hell, which was where I was.
Do not recommend.

The funny thing is me and the wife did this together. The weight loss and being in better shape pushed my sex drive into hyperdrive, the weight loss and exercise pushed the wife into menopause. Life can be cruel

Congrats to all you skinny jean wearing dudes.
6’1” standing flat-footed in my old crocs. Was doing good until King Cakes started showing up everywhere.
I think my BMI actually got close to 30 and it’s gone back up now. Once Fat Tuesday is gone, I’ll try to get back on that pain train.
Why does no one make a Honey Bun King Cake? That would the the death of me.

Yes, and the state of Texas will tell you that they get regular emergency calls over these pills being contaminated with oleander, a deadly poison.

If you used food as a coping mechanism for some sort of anxiety, and you've taken that method of coping away, your body may be looking for other ways to create the same effect. In many cases, the exercise becomes that coping mechanism, but it doesn't seem to for you. But the coping mechanism is the symptom of a different problem.
What is underneath the anxiety you don't realize you have? Job? Family? Finances? Explore the stressors you think you're dealing with, and figure out if you really are.

Not finances we are very comfortable. Newly empty nesters so maybe that. I don’t know my brain is on fire.

That thing you’re feeling is the call to greatness. Embrace it.
