Does being naive necessarily make you stupid? I would argue no.
This is probably just a sheltered young gal who has had minimal experience out in the wild.
Was it a dumb decision? Absolutely and she'll have scars to remind her of that decision every day.

And THE VERY WORST thing you can do around big predator cats is turn your back to them. They like to attack from behind.

There is absolutely no way this idiot was never exposed to the basic knowledge that many wild animals will try to kill you. I have never been that close to a wild cat but I knew from a very young age they would kill me if given the chance. If you want to split hairs about being willfully ignorant and stupid, fine. But I will stick with calling her stupid.

this is my philosophy from what i have learned in life:
Some people can learn not to touch a hot stove by telling them not to touch it......
some people need to 1st touch the hot stove to learn not to touch it.....

At yellowstone it is mostly Asians walking up to buffalo for pictures, in my experience.
