The beautiful Madewood antebellum plantation house in Napoleonville designed by Henry Howard is up for sale. Howard also designed Nottoway which we lost recently to fire. At just over two million, it could be a nice weekend house for someone on the OTs butler.

Too gaudy for my taste. But it’s a nice house.

The best part is the 19 acres though.

Honestly the modern shower ruins this whole house.

Why would someone do this?

So, should they have put a chamber pot in there instead of a modern toilet as well?

Slave quarters not big enough for my butler. Hard pass.

Likely to make it ADA accessible.

Mrs. udtiger took her bridal photos on the front porch of Madewood many moons ago.

Used to love going there as a child. If I was 30 years older would be a great retirement house.

With a little bit of work someone can turn it into a fantastic wedding venue.

That place is beyond beautiful. And it would be the most extraordinary money pit you could imagine.

Its location is why it hasn’t sold yet. If it was on the Mississippi River, it’d have long sold at that price.

I love old houses but not enough to reconcile with myself to pay the constant premium.

Went on a class field trip there in grammar school and still drive by it regularly when I go visit family. Beautiful place and I hope whoever buys it maintains its historical value.

No but the toilet isn't as big of an eye sore as that glass 5 person shower.

I imagine someone whoever restored and maintained this place is not from "old money".
