Many addresses in Arkansas recieved these in their mailboxes today due to a mass-mailer, Unsolicited.

The book is a reprint of a 19th Century Anti-Catholic book written by the Co-founder of Seventh Day Adventists during the influx of ethnic Catholics from Ireland, Italy, Eastern Europe, etc.

From Grok:

quote:

The book portrays the Catholic Church (particularly its historical papal system) as having introduced serious errors into Christianity starting from the time of Constantine, corrupting biblical truths during the Middle Ages, and being responsible for widespread persecution of those who held to "pure" faith (e.g., Waldensians, Reformers). It identifies the papacy with prophetic symbols like the "beast" in Revelation, accuses it of changing God's law (especially regarding the Sabbath to Sunday), and warns that in the end times, the papacy will regain global influence, ally with apostate Protestantism and civil powers (especially in the U.S.), enforce a Sunday law as the "mark of the beast," and persecute faithful Sabbath-keepers.

Well... some of that synopsis isn't exactly incorrect.

But treat it like the rest of mass mailers and trash it if you don't want to read it.

Seventh Day Adventists hold the pope as some kind of false leader, but they view some chick Ellen White as a prophet.

I mean, if you ever think to yourself: "the pope is wrong on this one" then you're probably not a Catholic, technically?

With that, technically, probably nobody is a actually a Catholic... if they were really being honest with themselves.

I don't know anyone who unconditionally believes the Pope has been infallible.

70% of world is non Christian.

God John 3:16s the world. 2000+ years or so later, and only 30% accepted, 70% does not. Not good on any scale of measurement of success, no?

I post in context of the underpinning contempt between “Christian” religions in this post. Does not seem to be helping the John 3:16 cause.

What say you?

No? What separates Catholicism from the other sub divisions of Christianity, other than the belief that the pope is infallible?

Ah yes. Silly goose Aquinas didn’t actually understand scripture like Pastor Jim down the road at the mega church does.

I'm a long time removed from my Catholic schooling, but aren't there a grand total of two ex cathedra, and therefore purported infallible, pronouncements from popes, ever?

I got that book sent to my house in MS a couple years back. Made good starter for the fire outside.

I could kind of see this when comparing other old, Apostolic branches, but it becomes hilarious if compared to any post-Reformation branch.

A catholic dude (the kooky "my wife wears a veil all the time and we only go to Latin mass" type) that I know recieved one of these and went ballistic on Facebook for 3 or 4 days. Even his wife posted about it after he gave her permission to.

Why couldn't they have done this 6 years ago? Would have helped with the toilet paper shortage.

These people are nuts. I have a cousin who was/is in this shite. I think Saturdays are their Sundays. He worked with some people who were in this an evidently they convinced him to join.

I am Catholic. Not practicing, but if it went down I am with the Catholics. Not all of them.. Like the priest who are kiddie touchers.

The Pope is only infallible in the sense that he can change an existing doctrine in the Catholic church.
