Wasn’t sure that was public knowledge as casual as he said it on his recent podcast.
Kiffin mentioned 4 teams. We believed them to be LSU, Florida, Aurburn and an unknown. Some said it was ucla. I know some reports said fsu.
Just a crazy situation. They were going to fire Norvell if they could get kiffin and eat the buy out but because they couldn’t get kiffin they are sticking with Norvell to save money. Ruining their ticket sales and recruiting.
That could have been us with BK.
Glad we got Kiffin.

Honestly I don't believe Kiffin leaves Ole Miss if LSU doesn't offer him the job. The other jobs are good but not better than where he was at ole miss. LSU is where he wanted to be.

Nahh he was going to Florida for sure. LSU stole him from Florida. He had signed a paper stating that he was going to take the Florida job according to Scone

Im Pretty sure the 4 teams were LSU Florida, Ole Miss, and believe it or not UCLA was the 4th mystery team

Saban and Pete Carrol sage advise to take the LSU job speaks volumes to his decision. These two coaches opinions have to be at the tope of the list of those in the know. Lane was wise in following their recommendations.

well fsu is dirt poor and were nowhere in the ballpark of being able to afford kiffin and the investment he was requesting.

It's a great thing to have those two coaches telling another great coach he'd be a dumbass to pass on the LSU job. Don't let fans of other schools try to convince you LSU is mid-tier.

I don't think a school like FSU is making the commitment in the new era of CFB in order to pull a coach like Kiffin.
It was rumored they are, or were, way behind on NIL. Of course, that could be because of Norvell, but I still don't think they were willing to make the commitment that Kiffin was looking for.

FSU just needs to get the heck out of the ACC. They will be relevant again once they can align in a new conference. I think Clemson is screwed. That ride is over.

It was Florida State who was the mystery 4th team, and they were willing to walk on Norvell if they got Kiffin.

Yep, there were plenty of deep-seated connections: Layla Kiffin grew up in Gainesville and is the daughter of Florida QB legend John Reaves. She was raised a Gators fan and attended the school. Knox once stated publicly that Florida has a great stadium & jerseys and was in his top 2 schools (with Oregon). Kiffin understood the fondness his family has for Florida. Plus, Lane is admitted fan of Steve Spurrier, someone Lane is compared to a lot.
But it mainly came down to Strictlin vs Verge. Strictlin did not want UF's GM to report directly to Kiffin and Lane felt there would be meddling by the AD. Verge promised to leave him alone and let him coach, while also giving Lane access to a significantly higher NIL resources. The Saban & Carroll Tiger endorsement helped put the nail in the coffin for Florida.

Would have been interesting but I believe he was gone to UF. I think the timing would have been different.

Pate is supposedly a good guy but I don't understand why people buy so much stock in what he says.
