Theoretically I'm open to breaking the filibuster to get the SAVE Act passed.

I say "theoretically" because I'm making the assumption the with required voter ID in federal elections requirement under the SAVE Act the GOP would win elections much easier and control all branches of government for the foreseeable future.

I just dont trust republicans to fix any....any really bad situation. They've had decades to fix all kinds of problems and they are just controlled opposition.

I assume that if the virtual filibuster is nuked, the old time filibuster is still in play.

They should do it. Once the SAVE act is passed they won't have to worry about the Democrats winning another election any time soon.

The filibuster is a completely extra-Constitutional rule fabricated to benefit the uniparty compact.

Come on. That's really out of touch.

The best thing for this country is to have only republicans in charge of all branches of government for the next 25 years at least.

It will take years to undo the damage Obama has done. We cannot let them further ruin our country.

I wouldn't be so sure. All those liberals fleeing NY, IL, and CA? They don't leave their liberal politics behind. You could have a couple of red states become purple because of the influx of liberals..

We wont have 50 votes to go nuke. We'd orilly have 45 or 46.

I pray Im wrong.

100% agree this is worth going nuclear over.

Correct, you will have to physically do the work.

Amen. It's like someone tying their own hand behind their back and then saying "it's simply impossible to get anything done" when they could at any time just untie the other hand.

They should because the dems are going to do n it the second they retake the senate.

The alternative is to make the frickers actually take/hold the floor and make them talk 24/7.

Thune could actually bring the act for a floor vote tomorrow, forcing the Dems to initiate a speaking filibuster. It would be great theater, and good for the GOP since over 80% of Americans support voter ID laws. But it would make these a-hole politicians, including Republicans, have to work more than their usual 2 days a week. They can't be inconvenienced.

The filibuster needs to stay. The Democrats will be in charge again, one day.

Just eliminate the Zombie Filibuster.

Problem solved.

The "zombie filibuster" is a procedure where a senator only needs to threaten a 60-vote threshold to block legislation, rather than actively holding the floor with 10+ hours of debate. It was created by 1970s rule changes. This tactic allows a minority to obstruct legislation without physically having to speak on the Senate floor for the given time. Senators could tradeoff their time, but by rule, are only allowed 2 bites at the apple. So filibuster length would be constrained to the time each Senator could continue to run her/his mouth x 2.

Pass the SAVE Act as written and that likelihood goes down DRAMATICALLY.
