You can tell from the responses on social media who has been properly educated on the history of the direct election of Senators and who has not.

Can we move it from 17th by going down 2?

The 17th amendment is an abomination against the constitution and should have never existed.

I would welcome a return to how it was originally intended to be.

Then abolish the 16th and the 19th and we are good

Senators already advocate for their state under the current system. What's the benefit of returning their selection to state legislatures?

The Senate was intended to represent the state governments in Congress. We the people are represented by the House of Representatives. That’s why the Founders structured the Senate to be selected by the state legislatures. We elect our state legislators, they in turn elect our state’s two senators. Or at least that’s how it was originally done until 1913.

Looking back through US history at almost every event that constituted the passage of landmark legislation, i.e. bills that had significant national implications and future impact, I noticed one common truth: The amendment, bill, or law was created and pushed by Progressive Democrats. This amendment is no different. We are but sheep being lead to the slaughter under the pretense of rigged elections

And that made sense when states were more independent entities from the federal government. That's not really the case now. What is the state legislature going to advocate for that the people wouldn't already do for themselves?

Blunting your voice and mine isn't something that should be done lightly.

States were supposed to be far more independent of the federal government than they are today. The system has been bastardized. That’s why we’re approaching $40 trillion in debt and are taxed to death.

When senators are selected by the legislature, that senator is going to do what the state legislature wants them to do. Today senators do what their party tells them to do.

What part of the House of Representatives being our voice are you not understanding?

This absolutely needs to happen. It would be the most impactful legislation in over a century and would re-establish a key accountability on the federal government.

So grifters like Hillary Clinton can't show up to NY for 1mo, claim residency, then usurp the system of representation with Soros style $$ from other states, countries, and world interests.

They should be proven representatives of the state.

. Do they? Seems to me that they represent those that got them elected -- mostly the wealthier people in cities. If they represented the interests of the states themselves, there's no way Congress would allow the federal government usurp control over so many things or to allow it to get so big and out of control.

Exactly.

It was set up as a bicameral legislative body.

The 17th Amendment gave us a unicameral legislative body masquerading as a bicameral legislator body.

You, most likely, are not going to have a senator serve for 40 years and that is a win in of itself
