Clickbait list of the top 150 guitarists ever. EVH at 105, Clapton unranked

Paste Magazine

It's impossible to do an accurate ranking of these types of things, because it's so subjective. But this is such a failure on so many fronts.

1. On multiple occasions they rank two guitar players from the same band as equal, which is retarded: Example: 138. Angus Young & Malcolm Young (AC/DC); 122. Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi

2. Clapton unranked, Eddie Van Halen not in the top 100. Ridiculous

3. The complete forcing of fake diversity in the rankings (8 of the top 42 are women)

4. Johnny Marr at No. 3. I love his work, but I can assure you he does not think he should be ranked that high.

5. Mixing classical and jazz guitarists, with rock guitarists.

Congrats Paste, you got me to click on your click bait.

I agree. Joni Mitchell doesn't get the respect she deserves.
Most players would agree she belongs ahead of EVH, SRV, Knopfler, etc.

Yea, SRV at 123 is a head scratcher.

And Kurt Cobain has no business being ranked. He was the third best guitarist in Nirvana.

Half the people on that list are EVH and/or Clapton fan boys who would be embarrassed to be ranked ahead of them. Especially Steve Lukathor.

Sounds like a good list.......but after a quick perusal, it seems more of a "vibe" list than technically good list.

Also no Steve Vai.

Nor Eric Johnson, Dimebag Darrell, Richie Kotzen, Marcus King, Jimmy Herring, John Petrucci, Randy Rhodes, Tim Henson, Zakk Wylde, John Sykes or Paul Gilbert

If they wanted to throw some women in there, they could've included Samantha Fish or Orianthi.

But hey, they got Mother Maybelle Carter in there (just ahead of Jimmy Page)

Clapton isn't my favorite either. But he is one of the greatest, and most influential, guitarists of all time.

Prince as #1.

I am a huge Prince fan, but he's not even in the top 50 of best all time.

We need to permanently get rid of all these guitarists from the 1930s-50s.

The solid-body electric guitar wasn't mass produced until the 1950s and wasn't widely used until the 1960s.

The idea that these people who played mostly acoustic guitar, or primitive electric guitars, are equal to the guitar gods of the future years is a joke.

It's like saying race-car drivers or football players from the 1940s are as good as today.

I am so glad and shocked to see Leo Nocentelli get the love he deserves on this list. Prince at 1 is definitely a joke even thought he was amazing.

I didn’t look but if it doesn’t have Jerry Garcia, Dean Ween or Richard Thompson in the top 20, list is shite
