This is the thing he talked about an absence of in Mississippi and that Saban reinforced to him….tons of local 4-5 star talent in your own backyard!

Mississippi produces a lot of great talent too. Their per capita NFL talent is great.

After the Egg Bowl he made a direct comment about it and then referenced it several more times upon his hiring

But they aren’t really going to OM is the point. Lots of home grown talent that goes elsewhere. Mississippi’s top 10 get picked apart by out of state schools every year. Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee. It looks like State has done a better job of getting MS top 10 players than OM has recently.
Louisiana is different, our home grown talent usually stays home.

lol. He spent the past few years from six hours away and recruited from all over the country.
He went into this fully aware of LA talent.

Throughout my life it always seemed to be so many great players from other schools came from Louisiana. I always was left scratching my head how is it they never wound up at LSU. So much wasted potential for the Fighting Tigers.

But there isn't as much of it in Mississippi compare second dozen of each state.

It does and will likely continue to but the state has to change the hs NIL rules to something like the Missouri model that emphasizes the instate schools. Out of state schools are clamping down kids, like #1 '27 wr Easton Royal with huge hs level NIL deals(Texas Longhorns) with language locking them in to a certain extent. We are gonna have to "buyout" his contract to sign him and we are the instate school. Meanwhile hs NIL is illegal in Texas. Money defeats loyalty most of the time particularly when it costs you money to get out of a premature deal.

That mostly leave the state.

Yep, its easier for sure but today you have to pay them in a way different manner than you did even 5-6 years ago.
When restricted to roster budget, you can only sign so many. Local pull helps, but at the end of the day, its all about the money offer these days.

Of the many reasons I’m happy that saban retired, him no longer plucking our top talent has to be the top reason. I hated seeing Alabama win with our players.

You don't think he recruited LA while he was at Ole Miss and Bama? Hell, he even got one of our highest rated players at the time in Janzen Jackson when he was at Tenn. Now that was mostly O being the bag man, but still counts.

This was not always the case. Several difference makers would wind up at Alabama, Colorado, Michigan, Notre Dame, Fla St, Miami, and S.Cal.
Dinardo and Saban slowed the exits.
Flash back to 1982 Alabama, the Bear’s last year. Two La top recruits were on that team. Tommy Wilcox at Safety, and Steve Mott at Center. BOTH were All Americans. How much better would we have been, had they stayed home.
BUT, WE UPSET THEM 20-10 in Tuscaloosa.

He was in Oxford, not Pittsburgh. He has been recruiting the hell out of La for a while.

NIL levels the playing field with $ but I think if Lane had access to the talent and didn't have to compete with NIL it would have been an ever bigger gap with LSU and the rest.

...Do you think he never came to Louisiana when he was at Ole Miss or Bama?

Have a down vote for not knowing shite about talent in other states and Kiffin recruiting in Louisiana many years.. It’s like Kiffin never worked for Nick Saban.

Mississippi has plenty of talent. Those in-state kids just dont share the same enthusiasm for OM/MSU as LA kids do for LSU. The brand and spotlight is not the same.
