Elyria Police Fatally Shoot Armed Robbery Suspect After Chase and Hostage Situation

John Johnson, 37, was taken down by an Elyria police officer after leading officers on a high-speed chase following an armed robbery outside an AT&T store involving a Brinks armored truck.

Police say Johnson forced the Brinks driver into the vehicle, stole cash, and fled, reaching speeds over 100 mph before spike strips stopped his vehicle.

After exiting the crashed vehicle, Johnson ran into a nearby apartment complex.

He took a woman and two of her four children hostage at gunpoint inside the apartment.

An officer pursuing him kicked through the door and shot Johnson inside the residence.

That officer wasn’t playing around, or waiting for backup. He risked everything to end a dangerous situation right then.

In a day and time when I sometimes wonder how many real men are left, my faith is restored. This fine gentleman needs a raise, a vacation, and a damn promotion. Right damn now.

The dude sprinted 100 yards in full kit, karate kicked the door in, and put a dozen rounds on the bad guy almost immediately. I'd love to know shot distance, but regardless, that is some damn fine shooting skills.

I think we need a thorough investigation into this... better put him on paid administrative leave for one day for every shot he fired. Add an extra day for each one that hit. And be sure it's at his new pay schedule.
