Yeah I'm gonna go ahead and call BS on needing $520,000 a year to match a 1971 McDonald's workers spending power

Cry me a f’ing river. The day I don’t see an $80,000 vehicle and spoiled as humans needing a $15,000 golf cart to drive less than half a mile to the pool is the day I’ll start saying we have a problem.

We're stretching "facts" quite a bit

Yeah, $160 in 1971 = $1271 in 2025
Or roughly an income $66,000 per year in 2025

July 1971
The average hourly wage of a McDonald's employee in 1971 was $1.65/hour (which was minimum wage).
quote:
The creator of Wienerschnitzel worked for Glen Bell's Taco Tia (Taco Bell) in his early 20's making $160 a week.
He would have had to work 100 hours per week. There are only 168 hours in a week, meaning he had only ~9 hours per day to get back/forth from work, sleep, etc.
To make $160/week working a normal 40-hour week, he would have had to make $4/hour. No entry-level fast-food positions were paying $4/hour in 1971.
That $1.65/hour in 1971 would be roughly $13.14/hour today when accounting for inflation. The average fast food working in California today is making ~$20/hour.

I don't know where this info came from but the minimum wage in 1971 was $1.60 an hour. 40 hours a week is $64 before taxes...
Then he contradicts himself with the gold analogy..
This person is so full of shite...

He's making a gold comparison while gold is in its biggest bubble ever.

People complain about the cost of living yet they will gladly pay double for their food so it will be delivered instead of taking 10min to pick it up.
My brother in law is like this. Complains about the cost of things yet shows up Christmas morning in a brand new F-150.
Not saying costs for certain things aren’t out of control but the American consumer does absolutely nothing to help themselves.

If tweet fails to load, click here. Oh so this guy's a retard. In 2012 you could get Bitcoin for $7. That means you would need to make $83,000 an hour to match a 2012 McDonald's worker's purchasing power.

Yep, $10 coffee from Starbucks everyday, restaurants stay packed, door dashing late night munchies, going on multiple trips a year, brand new vehicles and wanting 2,500 square foot houses with marble countertops and high ceilings.

Take away high interest, bottomless credit and lifelong debt and that picture changes substantially. It's a bubble and when it pops, reality is going to be very ugly.

The burger boy made 160 bucks a week and a used car cost $200, a semester of college was $150, gas was 20 cents a gallon, a burger was 10 cents, a house was 10k, etc etc
They were making more than 560k a year when you think about it.

I worked at McDonalds in the early 70s. Trust me, I did not have that kind of spending power. This is bullshite.
