How about Fred Hoiberg? We could land him and Ahmad Hudson at the same time

The general is gonna return. Verge and Rousse have a relationship with him. Nc state proves to be frauds with their NIL. Our boosters about to money whip the third tier program in North Carolina

We need to hire a guy with an offensive prowess that has an entertaining system that will get good looks, play an uptempo style and bring excitement. Add a little charisma off the floor.

We’ve had to watch Brady, Trent, Jones and now McMahon with some putrid offensive basketball despite a few successful teams here and there. Wade’s teams were by and large statistically great offensively but it wasn’t really a systematic thing. They were just efficient and had guys who could score.

You had to laugh last night when we FINALLY got a stop, got up the floor with numbers, then pulled it back and waited for everyone including the defense to get set so we could run a McUseless 1-screen and nish set. Sure fire way to help overcome a 20+ point lead.

I say all this as somebody who loved playing for old school defense and rebounding coaches. John Chaney is my favorite coach ever. But we need a team thats fun to watch.

There was a thread on here a couple of weeks ago discussing where he stated something negative towards LSU. I can’t remember the context. Does anybody remember this? Something along the lines that NC state was the first job he’s had with the full support of the administration but there was an LSU element to it.

That more negative to VCU. It's just telling the truth in regards to LSU.

Wade has a lot of backing from the BoS and of course the new president. Back channel stuff has been going on for 2 years.

He will 100% be offered the job, whether he comes back or not will depend on how much he has grown to love Raleigh/NC State. They have had some issues there with NIL/branding/admin that will work in LSU's favor. Gotta be patient, Wade's buyout drops to 3 million on April 1st so no move will be made before then most likely.

If the sky is the limit on Salary and buyouts, here’s my list from 1-6. Obviously, the lower on the list means less money.

Dan Hurley
Nate Oats
Kelvin Sampson
Bruce Pearl
Grant McCastland

Well, at bare minimum, if he likes money, accepting the same contract McMahon has would be a "step up" from NC State.

That aside, I'm sure NC State's marketing team is probably thinking "how do we get those LSU fans to support our program?" Their fans, for some reason, think we are a basketball powerhouse when our OWN fans don't even think that?"

Maybe, but unless you could convince him that doing the same thing he did at Nebraska to get them where they are now at LSU would be better than staying where he has already done it, I doubt you would get him. And would the fanbase be willing to wait 5 seasons for an NCAA tournament bid, then regress in year 6, then have a stellar start in year 7? The B1G plays 20 conference games per season. Here is the comparison between MM and Hoiberg through 21 games into season 4.

McMahon in through now 57–61 (.483) 15–47 (.242)

Hoiberg through the same point in season 37-75(.330) 12-57(0.174)

I'm not saying he would do the same at LSU; he did much better at Iowa State, but if it were anywhere in the realm of MM numbers, you would just as well shut down the MBB program.

Two guys I really like are St. Louis' Josh Schertz and Utah State's Jerrod Calhoun. Either of those would be good hires, IMO.

It would be nearly identical with a team in worse shape.

Wade's contract

Total Value: Over $17 million for six years.

Base Salary (Year 1): $2.5 million.

Annual Raises: $150,000 per year.

Performance Incentives: Up to $1.7 million annually, including bonuses for
ACC regular-season/tournament titles, NCAA tournament success, and national coach of the year.

Buyout: $5 million if Wade leaves before April 1, 2026.

McMahon's contract

Total Contract Value: $20.3 million over seven years.

2025-2026 Salary: Estimated at $2.8 million, marking a $100,000 increase from the previous year.

Performance Bonuses: Includes $50,000 each for SEC regular-season and tournament titles, $50,000 for each NCAA tournament round reached, and $100,000 for a national championship.

Buyout Clause: If terminated without cause, LSU owes 80% of the remaining contract value.

Yes, McMahon is making more in year 4 than Wade in year 1 baring incentives. But the incentives may push him higher if he hits any of the incentive benchmarks.

Good analysis, the point being made is it wouldn't take much of a bump from what we are paying now to offer Wade more than his current deal.

There are some mouth breathers on here who think NCST is paying Wade significantly more than LSU is paying MM. That's just not the case; the deals are fairly similar. A 6-year deal with the average annual comp in the $4-4.5MM would be a nice bump for Wade, and is probably middle of the pack for SEC coaches salaries. For instance, Jans is at $4.2MM.

ETA. According this article from last year, we are already near the bottom of the conference in what we pay MM. The fact that Wade's deal is similar at NCST is positive.

Not sure why the team in worse shape matters. With the portal, any new coach at LSU is turning over 80-90% of this roster. He did the same at NCST last year and would likely be doing it again this year.

There is certainly a great deal of validity to this. I am just not sure LSU puts the same level of resources into MBB as NC State. Wade has alluded to that without outright saying it. But LSU certainly could make that push. I'm just not sure with all the baggage in the past that either party (the administration, not the fans) would be all that gungho to renew the relationship.

McMahon is done, so we will know what happens post this season.

I suspect our target will be someone who is in the tournament, so it will drag on enough for people to get hopeful it's Wade. Time will tell.

I can assure you the CURRENT LSU administration is very excited about renewing that relationship. It's like some people in a fantasy world that when President Rousse took the LSU job, that he inherited all of his predecessor's feelings about Wade. Quite the opposite, Wade and Rousse are very close.
