Watch the tense moments leading up to assessor's son being shot by New Roads Police

Looks like at the end, he tried suicide by cop. Ultimately failed. Of course now the family is suing.

video shows Chambliss arriving on scene in response to a call about a disturbance at O'Reilly Auto Parts. He finds John Sexton sitting on the curb holding a large metal object, and according to Chambliss, cutting himself.
Chambliss orders Sexton to drop the object multiple times and deploys several non-lethal tactics to try to subdue him before pulling his handgun and shooting four times.
Sexton was arrested for aggravated assault on a peace officer after he was released from the hospital. Though it was never publicly reported, Chambliss was apparently facing attempted murder charges as well.
However, a grand jury cleared both Chambliss and Sexton by declining to indict them last week.
The Sexton family is suing Chambliss and the New Roads Police Department for damages.

Another unarmed white man shot by police. It never stops.

Frick him - one less nutjob to worry about.

Easy for that sleezball lawyer to say after the fact and from the comfort of a non-escalated situation that he was "obviously mentally ill and we should take care of him" Put that idiot lawyer in the path of the man running at him and see if he doesn't react the same way.
Stupid. Charge a cop, get fricked. End of story.

No small irony in a cop trying to save a guy and ultimately ending up filling him full of lead.

Those bean bags don't do shite huh? I get it the dude was outside of his mind and maybe couldn't feel pain or something, but it looked like when King Kong got shot by regular guns and it just bounced off of him without even phasing him,

Crazy honkie was running at them with a blade. Good shoot

I will never understand why police departments are not equipped with tranquilizer guns to take care of these situations. They can bring a Rhino or Lion down with one- why not use them in these situations where people have no firearms.

They can crack ribs and leave huge welps and black and blue bruises the size of a softball, especially at the range this officer employed. It's not his fault that the guy was clearly out of his mind on whatever illicit substance(s), he has to protect himself first.
One shot with a bean bag gun brings down any of us regular people, let alone 7. Then the tazer would absolutely finish the job if not.
This guy was just the unlucky officer that responded to this call, and it's a miracle he didn't kill the guy - even then he would've been cleared. Instead of seeing the negative side of it, maybe the parties involved should realize how lucky the perp is to have received that officer that day on that call.

I wonder what he had in his system, the two non lethal options are intense pain compliance.

In his personal life...yeah. But any business dealings have always been up to snuff.
I feel like someone forgot to flip the switch completely to lawyer.

Sounds like a good closing.
When every nonlethal means fails, there's only one choice - lethality. Question only is: Who dies? That the cop was able to not kill him is incredible.

“Welt” is a raised redish mark from an injury.
“Whelp” is a puppy.
“Welp” is not a word, but it is a common purposeful misspelling of “well”.
