It was necessary.

Hopeful for Scott Huff but I know it’s not likely.

Brad Davis is looking for a job. I think he would do a fine job at Alabama.

Seems kind of late in the cycle to make a move like this. Guessing someone in the NFL is taking the position?

The OL has been horrific under him.

Good riddance.

After recruiting class is signed and the portal is done. Kinda shady.

This was the worst kept secret ever, anybody who needed to know (and plenty that didn’t) knew he was gone. Don’t act like this isn’t standard operating procedure for college programs the past decade or so at least. I wish KDB had that SEC killer in him but I don’t think so.

I don't think it gets fixed as long as Ryan Grubb is OC. He always has a poor running game and weak OL.

They didn't give up a lot of sacks, finishing top 6. They also were mediocre at run blocking, finishing 106th.

Here are the rushing rankings of Ryan Grubb offenses the last 6 years.

2025 Alabama - 125th
2024 Seattle (NFL) - 28th (out of 32 teams)
2023 Washington - 106th
2022 Washington - 69th
2021 Fresno - 91st
2020 Fresno - 108th

Alabama's OL isn't getting better with Ryan Grubb as OC.

Pretty sure you guys will be firing Deboer at the end of this season. Who's at the top of your coaching want list? Cig? I think Texas is going to make a heavy run at Cig when they show Sark the door.

If you’re trying to point out that a pass heavy air raid system that’s 60:40 pass to run isn’t going to lead the nation in base rushing totals you are correct.

It’s also hilariously obvious that they aren’t trying to do that, they want to be extremely efficient when they run the ball and that’s what that 2023 UW offense was.

#4 FEI Offense
RB Avg 5.5YPC
28 TDs on the ground
1700 yards rushing

And what did that do for the offense? Allow the passing game to shred safeties over the top who couldn’t cheat to help man coverage because the backs were going for 5-6YPC. And even while they were throwing more deep vertical passes than anyone in P5 (at that time), they weren’t allowing sacks despite needing more time to allow those plays to develop.

Theres a reason that team won the Joe Moore award for OL play: they were really, really good up front.

Again, the only way this argument is true is by using the one specific stat you quoted which has zero to do with measuring OL efficiency.

You can look at pressures allowed, avg first contact, adj rush YPC, sacks or any other number of metrics and quickly realize he’s built really athletic quality lines that work for his system.

It just hasn’t happened at Bama yet because the elite OL coach they had at UW (Huff) went to the Rams, the one they hired was a bust and the guys they inherited at OL were huge slow guys intended to run a downhill power rushing attack for the offense Rees wanted to run not an air raid system with tons of pulling designed for athletic lighter and much faster players.

This is the very definition of over analyzing and rationalization because he’s your guy. It’s because they had Michael Penix and a good receiver. That’s it. There’s nothing complicated about it.

This is a thread about the OL and I was responding to a post which was saying DeBoer and Grubb more specifically cannot develop an effective OL.

In order to throw deep routes you have to protect longer for them to be successful.

Thus the fact that they had the best downfield passing offense in the country is direct proof that they could protect a non-mobile QB long enough for him to put those throws on the receivers 30+ yards downfield to a degree that opposing defenses werent just sending people and blowing up plays due to pressure.

So yes, the fact that they were completed so consistently is a credit to Penix.

The fact that he wasnt planted on his arse while he waited for the play to develop is a credit to the OL which was being maligned.
