We watched the first part last night. Very well done, Apatow doesn't overly insert himself as the interviewer. Tons of clips of interviews that I'd never seen. I love how Apatow takes clips of Mel Brooks telling the same story on multiple shows, and splices them together to show how he's the master of pacing a joke.
And once again, I will never understand how Patton Oswalt gets himself inserted into every single documentary made.

99 years is a heck of a run. Just imagine the changes and things he has seen in his lifetime.

I recorded this yesterday to watch.
Pretty incredible how alert, coherent, and sharp he still is at 99. I hope we have him for another ten years.

If Blazing Saddles and History of the World are on, Young Frankenstein should get a showing on HBO, too.

conan is right in that clip in the OP, and mel brooks did do whatever the frick he wanted to do. and succeeded in epic fashion. the big 3 are among the greatest comedies ever made, maybe the greatest

I can't count the number of times I've watched Blazing Saddles. Young Frankenstein many times as well. HoTW not as much as those but more than 5

This is a shame, because I really enjoy Mel Brooks. I will still watch, but I cannot stand Patton Oswalt. Something about him really rubs me the wrong way. He comes across as a disgusting person.

he’s only in it briefly. The rob reiner scenes are tough to watch
watched both episodes last night highly recommend. I thought I knew a lot about Mel brooks but not nearly enough. For instance I didn’t know about his production company or his involvement in movies like the elephant man. And obviously I knew he was married to Ann Bancroft but the story of their marriage is inspiring.
If you are a fan this is a must watch

I just finished this. So well done, funny, intelligent, poignant.

Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein coming out in the same year is insane work.

Had no idea he was a WW2 vet. His granddaughter is a pretty girl.
