Ubisoft has announced a sweeping company restructure that will result in the cancelation of six games including its Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, and a delay to a further seven titles. Two Ubisoft studios will be closed completely as a result of the changes, while others are subject to further layoffs.

quote:

Of the half dozen games that have been fully scrapped, Ubisoft is only publicly naming one today — its long-awaited Sands of Time remake that was rebooted once already. Three of the canceled games were new IPs, while one was a mobile game. Ubisoft's core focus going forward, the company has said, will be on open-world games and live-services.

Classic Ubisoft. They’ve made it abundantly that they want to cater to the casual crowd. frick them and frick the dumbasses who buy live service games.

I wouldn’t have trusted them to do it right for the Prince of Persia reboot anyway. Ubisoft is not the same company they were in the 2000s.

with Ubisoft's recent track record, did anybody really want this?

A few less titles by them in the wild is an absolute win, by my estimation.

I am convinced that Ubisoft and a lot of Triple A studios these days no longer have enough talent to make the games they once did.

They cratered the stock when they made this arrangement. I'm surprised they haven't been sued.

No strings? They took Ubi’s IP as collateral and placed it into a subsidiary shared with the founders.

What they’re doing now is trying to stabilize the company cutting overhead and trying to free itself from European labor standards.

It’s all but certain the Guillemots will launch their escape pod in the coming months.

I dodged a huge bullet on that one. Around the time The Division was released they didn’t have a bad title in their library, and it was smooth sailing through Covid. It seemed like a no-brainer stock pick a long time.

Fortunately there were no ADRs at the time that allowed the purchase of their French stock.
