My son and I are rebuilding a 2003 yamaha C40 2 stroke and it didn't come with any controls or a tiller handle. There are new ones out there but they are over $700. Anyone know of a mechanic or repair shop that might have a used one laying around?

Are you in NC or Baton Rouge?
If in BR, Greenwell Springs Marine would probably have one.

I’m actually out of state and willing to pay for shipping. I can call them. Insist think about them thanks. It’s crazy, even the used ones online are going for over $500. Maybe it is what it is.

Go on Facebook and search for a group called “Arkansas tiller handle outlaws” there’s guys in that group that convert the newer big tillers to work on the older 2 strokes. They have sources.

Breaux & Daigle in Pierre Part had the best price locally when I needed one a few years back. Seems like it was $750ish

Well on eBay the used older styles are going for $550. I can get a brand new one in the box for about $750. We got the motor for cheap and just trying to keep the cost down, I’m sure something expensive is going to come up during the rebuild process.

I had one with a 3 foot section of 2 inch pvc spliced over the throttle twist. Needed duct tape and worked just fine

You need 2 parts the tiller and the fitting kit. Retail is 800ish for new. The fitting kits tend to randomly go out of stock at times as well.

we are using a trolling motor clamp for an extension for our older 25 HP right now. The 40 i am rebuing will need electric start and tilt and trim controls which is why i am looking for the big tiller.

What do you expect them to cost? Did you not do any research before purchasing the motor on potential part costs?

Sweet alter as well.
