He wasn't tricked.
He tried to force it and, like the OP said, threw a terrible ball.
It was a terrible decision that only could have worked if he threw a perfect ball. That ball was below average.

Safety wad already there, faked covering the middle, fooled Beck into thinking it was only man outside...corner peeled off underneath...basically Beck thought he had one on one...it was never going to be a TD.
