I was looking at some old stuff and saw a reference to this BR music venue. I do not remember it. Can anybody give me the intel on it? I think it was around in the 90s.

It was a decent live music venue. From campus on Highland on the right right before going under I-10.

The biggest band I remember playing there was Poi Dog Pondering. It was where the mid size or regional college type bands would come through. Some Austin bands played there like Bad Mutha Goose and Killer Bees before they moved to Austin. I think they use to do some live poetry reading too.

It was a good place owned and operated by Onezieme Mouton, who passed away last year in Houston. He was an artist, an architect, a handbag designer and a really good guy.

Yup. It was a fabulous place for music for a short time.

The dearth of venues like this in BR is a bit sad.

BR punched above it's weight for a while as far as good music clubs go. Those days are gone, however.

Had my first gin and tonic there when it was Spanish Moon. Very cool interior but in a shitty location for whitey to go to.

That was my post college go-to in the early 90s.I once got attacked by a belligerent Chris Thomas King there in a case of mistaken identity lol. Also remember seeing Func Haus there a million times. Whatever it is now (Spanish Moon?) my children played a gig there a few years ago. I always liked it a lot-it's far nicer now.

It was at the corner of Julia Street and Highland Road and was once a place called Cypress Hollow.

I did not know Wendell other than as the front of Funk Haus back in the day. But I never forgot his name.

I did run into Oni over the years. Gave my wife one of his purses and our kids played baseball together one season.

Was that the lesbian bar or am I thinking of another one in that area?

Never bothered me. I have been to many shows at Red Dragon too which is a worse area.

I saw the Reivers there probably 1990 or so. Great show and a good band. Not sure whatever happened to them.

Art Bar had this big bouncer that also played the drums. He would toss your drunk arse out into the parking lot then get behind the kit and bash the tubs like Bonham. He could hold the pocket like anyone who hit the skins. Last I heard he was laying it down with Dick and the Foreskins.
