I don’t know what the heck all this means especially in terms of projecting next season’s win/loss record, but I just find it interesting.

I think that you ultimately don't want to be very reliant on the portal. You still want to build the majority of the roster on high school recruits.

The ideal situation was Ohio State going into 2025 when they mostly used the roster they recruited out of high school, and then were able to focus on a few high level players like Downs, Judkins, and a new QB in Howard.

Totals are just hard because of the vast differences in number of players. Colorado in 2023 I know had like 50 something or something like that.

This only emphasizes the value of a coaching staff that can actually run a good scheme and select/develop players for that scheme. LSU has been able to pull in talent even before CLK arrived but failed to put the pieces together on the field. Having CLK and his offensive staff will allow us to maximize the talent that we could already bring in before (and hopefully elevate recruiting along the way).

I always think, what if LSU had 3 or 4 better players on defense when JD won the Heisman?

It matters on how they are coached. Obviously with the coaching change, LSU needed to go in heavy with transfer portal. Hopefully over the years, LSU can rely on recruiting HS, develop those players, and retain. Fill positions with transfer as necessary. Not grab whole units like OL and QB.

Kelly went into the portal last off season bc it was necessary. He grabbed defensive players and it worked. But offense was a mess particularly on the OL.

With Lane I trust the offense will be better with key players returning and new additions. Next season I don't expect a CFP appearance but close.

It means that transfer ratings mean very little unless you know there’s a real coach and a plan for them.

how could this years portal haul only be slightly higher than last years?

Last years was awesome, but does not compare on paper to this class.

Last year's class had 6 in the top 50, 8 in the top 150, and 11 in the top 200

This year's class has 3 in the top 50, 12 in the top 150, and 14 in the top 200

This year's class isn't done yet and we're very likely to add another top 10 guy in Princewell or Seaton, and we may land both.

I would rate the classes about even overall if we don't add Princewell or Seaton, but if we add either, this one will definitely be better.

I don’t know. I think as long as you’re getting portal guys for 2 years or so, Hs players are largely expendable in a lot of ways.

It’s all about filling needs but not missing on players

And team chemistry

Where does Indiana rank the last two years? Not this year but previous two years.

It means nothing unless we make the playoffs.

it means that your recruiting and portal rankings don’t mean sh**. The biggest variable to success is the competence of your head coach and his staff.

they made the playoffs last year and finished ranked 10th. You're an idiot

They have an average recruiting ranking around 60. They are undefeated ranked 1st in the title game. Win or lose they made you look stupid
