Texas hospitals were hit with more than $1 billion in health care costs racked up by illegal immigrants during fiscal year 2025, the first year the state began tracking the figures.
The data, compiled by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and obtained by Texas Scorecard, shows hospitals logged 313,742 visits linked to individuals not legally present, with total costs reaching $1.05 billion by the end of the fiscal year.
Texas’ fiscal year runs from Sept. 1 through Aug. 31, but hospitals were only required to begin reporting in November. Based on the reported data, costs averaged about $105 million per month, meaning the true annual total could be significantly higher.

It’s damn near everything. All aspects of our lives. If every illegal disappeared tomorrow, people would be astonished at how much easier and better all our lives would be.

Yep, cost of living would plummet and standard of living would rise.
Import third world people you get a third world country.

But then progressive liberals would need to find some new evil to protest about.

We’ve had hospitals and clinics closed down out here in Central California, and throughout the state I’m sure, because so many of their patients (legal and illegal) were on Medi-Cal or Cal Viva and the state wouldn’t fully reimburse them for the costs. So they end up closing up shop while the rest of us our costs continue to increase. The illegals have got to go. Come here legally and I’m cool with it. I don’t really care where you come from. Illegal shite drives me nuts.

......and I'm absorbing massive increases in medical insurance plan cost. What I have to pay through the nose, illegal aliens are getting for free.

When this was originally reported last year, not all hospitals were providing the data required, so it wasn't even complete to begin with, because I think they refused to ask about status even when legally required. IIRC, the hospitals avoiding reporting were largely located in Harris, Travis, and Tarrant (Houston, Austin, Dallas) counties, which means that the bulk of the cost is still hidden

Anything is possible....
but, Abbott actions have been drastically different than Waltz. Honestly, I don't live in Texas and am not aware of Texas politics.
Some around here are....

Just a reminder that 1 billion is 1000 million dollars.

Can you imagine if all illegals were gone, and there was NO corruption in our government (not possible)....
We truly would be in the golden age!

Abbott has been slow to follow DeSantis in getting proper shite done. He can't cut off funding because he's not allowed to, essentially. He doesn't have the statutory authority to do so, and has to rely on the legislature to deal with it. But he has been governor for ten years before getting this idea across the finish line, and it's just reporting, not any action. We (TX) only have the budget done every two years, and it's taken ~5 budget cycles to figure out this information is inexcusable.
