Trivia Question? Besides LSU, playing who played for NC in home state?

Not counting LSU, is Miami the only other team to play for the national championship in their home state?
Florida or FSU maybe? Don't think USC has.
ETA- USC has, but lost.
I guess it should be amended to who has won a NC in their home state?

Without looking it up. I think one of the years Bama and Georgia played was in ATL.
I looked it up...2017/2018 Natty with Devonte Smith's walk off OT winner was indeed in Atlanta

Wasn’t the 2005 BCSNCG with USC and Texas in the Rose bowl?
Edit: I had the wrong year, it was 2006.

Florida State won one against Nebraska there as well.
back when the AP gave out the Championship before the Bowl games, Texas finished #1 and played in the Cotton Bowl.

There is really only limited teams that could do it. FSU, UF who has done it, DA U which did it way back prebcs if you want to count it, UGA who lost Ga Tech, the Texas schools could and the Cali schools could.
The NC is pretty much going to be Cali, Florida and then Cotton bowl, sugar and peach bowls so it limits the pool

Technically these were not the Sugar and Peach Bowls, respectively. They were the CFP NCG which were hosted by these cities that year

USC wasn't playing for the national championship that year. UCLA won the National Championship (Coaches Poll) and their conference.
UCLA couldn't go to the Rose Bowl since they had been their the previous year. USC was a replacement since they were local
Several things wrong with this. UCLA won the national title in 1954 but couldn't go to the Rose Bowl and Ohio State did beat Southern Cal. Too bad as even though the polls were awarded prior to bowls, UCLA was #1 in the UPI poll and Ohio State was #1 in AP.
The Jan 1, 1969 Rose featured #1 Ohio State vs #2 Southern Cal. Southern Cal would have been awarded the AP poll had they won that day.
I'm guessing the OP meant to infer either the BCS or playoffs. Still Texas won a few Cotton Bowls in years they were AP champ or UPI.. Southern Cal won several titles when they won the Rose Bowl.

I didn’t realize that all 3 of those LSU championships (and 2011 but I don’t like to think about that one) were at the sugar bowl. That’s neat

It is,but it could be said all 4. Even though LSU won the 1958 title before the bowls, LSU did win the Sugar Bowl over Clemson, 7-0 in the 1959 Sugar.
What is really odd is heading into the 2019 playoffs to be played in New Orleans, the three other teams Ohio State,Oklahoma, and Clemson had already lost to LSU in a bowl--Sugar,or BCS in New Orleans.

More often than not this will be the case given the huge pro stadiums in these states, but the CFP title game does rotate now.
It was in Indianapolis in 2022 and will be in Vegas in 2026.
Cold winter weather will always limit the possibilities, but any big city with a domed stadium could conceivably bid to host the title game like with the Super Bowl. It’s no longer limited to the traditional BCS or NY6 sites
