Demond Williams agency blindsided

Williams used a traditional agency to complete his deal. Sources said there had been outreach for more than two weeks from people outside the agency to schools. The agency that did his deal was blindsided by Williams' portal entry.
THIS IS A BIG CLAIM BY THAMEL
quote:
Per sources, one person who has contacted schools about Williams is Cordell Landers, who generally refers to himself as an adviser and loomed as one of the central figures in Iamaleava's departure from Tennessee. Landers denied to ESPN that he is involved with Williams.
Per Grok
quote:
Cordell Landers is a former college football staffer, serving as Assistant Director of Player Personnel at the University of Florida. He has a background in recruiting and coaching at junior colleges like LA Valley and Pasadena City. Recently, he's acted as an adviser in transfers, notably involved in Nico Iamaleava's move from Tennessee to UCLA. He denies any role in Demond Williams' Washington situation.

Of course the one time lsu tries to grab a qb it has to be the biggest cluster frick imaginable.
And you know everyone is going to make it an even bigger deal because it's lsu and a qb.

Maybe their irrational hate for LSU will be a bigger blessing for college football bc everyone will be motivated to fix this shite finally

I had no idea this was the only time LSU has tried to get a quarterback, that’s crazy. They just can’t catch a break

Supposedly Williams and Fisch have the same agent and the agent had no knowledge of his plan to enter the portal. Personally I say F ‘em and be the most ruthless villain possible. Bend the rules, exploit the loopholes and play the game until they change it. Every team is doing some form of shady shite.

It’s a really weird situation. Something went down between Williams and UW for him to just want to up and leave.
Then he (through a handler or advisor or whatever you want to call them) used back channels to gauge interest from other programs.

Fam and him probably thought UDub lowballed (I guess at the time it wasnt lowball) according to the market with Sorsby and potentially others getting $5m+… havent researched too much but wonder how UW team looking like this year.

May also have been the structure of the Big Ten deals because it sure seemed to be effing over the players royally and was almost a scam with how it is set up.
Having the same agent as the coach seems shady and calls in to question that agent’s ability to be a fair supporter of Williams in the negotiations.

This is click bait.
Nothing has changed except people trying to create drama and traffic for their sites. This kid’s transfer is not being watched by everyone with “vested” interest. They are all doing their own deals and trying to land their own, most lucrative deals.
Nothing to see here, legally. UW cannot have indentured servants.

We feel confident he will end up in our purple and gold.

Yeah I'm sure that'll play well for them in court. Our coach's agent got him a below market deal to stay, make it stick.

Was it a “big moment in college football” when the same thing happened with Xavier Lucas this past season or is it just because it involves LSU and Lane?

How is this different than the QB that just WENT to UW? Hypocrisy at its finest. Rules for thee, but not for me.
frick’em. It’s the Wild Wild West, better have yourself a good gunslinger.

All day yesterday I listened as talking heads kept referring to tampering allegations that “are going to come out sooner or later.”
Isn’t it possible that this kid saw how much Texas Tech paid Sorsby and just decided this on his own?
Think about the timeline.
Signs deal with Washington.
Sorsby news comes out.
Enters the portal.
Isn’t Sorsby getting 2 million more than his Washington contract?
I haven’t seen one media person bring this up as a possibility.

I mean Nuss and CBK had the same agent? So it happens.

At this point wtf would UW want Williams now? All he has to do is dog it on the field and either get beat out or benched.
Unfortunately, without incentives in a contract, there is nothing a school can do if he decides to do this.
I know if I were UW I would just try to get some compensation back out of the deal he signed and move on.. No way I want him as my starting QB now.

Does anyone know what Doug Hendrickson earned from the original $4M deal, or what the Wasserman agency charges?
There’s a reason the upper-tier portal guys are flying all over and scheduling this school, visiting that school, while rumors are circulating about other schools.
Their agents will earn as much as 20% off the top of the player’s deal. If an agent can generate a little extra leverage to increase a player’s value by just $250K for example, then he could add another $50K to his final tally. Some agents are working hard for every penny because of that huge commission percentage.
Others are processing as many deals as possible because even the smaller simple deals will each generate a commission of several thousand dollars.
Why would Demond need a huge agency with existing ties to his school to secure a reasonable deal (that quickly fell way below market value)?
Then have that agency’s lawyers rubber stamp a template contract, including agreeing to a few terms that were optional.
Does his agent deserve somewhere between $500K-800K for undervaluing their client in order to get a quick and easy deal done in-house?
No wonder Demond cut them off once outsiders got in his ear.
