A Persian biz friend whose father was #2 on the Iranian military food chain under the Shah and hung by the neck in 1979, told me 4 days ago that until Tabriz rises up the protests will likely end in failure.

I would say cities further south are really the key. Places like Abadan and Qom as well as Isfahan. Mullah support down there was key to Khomeini rising in the 70's

The Persians have a chance with Trump in charge. They're doing their best to throw off the shackles of Islam. I predict they will succeed this time

Trump said during the campaign in 2020 that if he won reelection Iran would fall very quickly. Looks like he may have been right.

Jimmah Carter was dumber than Biden. FTR, his peace deal was actually agreed ahead of time by Sadat and Begin who knew if they involved Carter they could get billions from the US for shits and giggles.

So is this a result of the “Kerry Cash” running out? Or not related?

The Persians have a fantastic history, culture, and society.

They could be first class if they would throw off the dark age mullahs.

I was listening to the Shah’s son, Prince Reza. He’s 65 now, was around 18 when his father was overthrown. He sounds steady, wise, intelligent. When asked about his religion he replied “That’s a personal matter, but I’m a dedicated Shia Muslim. But I am also dedicated to a secular government where everyone has freedom to practice their faith, including Christians and Jews. I believe in individual freedoms and civil liberties. I believe in the role of government as fostering a society where people can be educated and successful and business and commerce is developed for the people.”

"Muh Mullah."

I guess we don't have anybody here dumb enough to think this would be a bad thing. Maybe VOR. He acts like Islam is comprised of nothing but a bunch of Noy Scouts.

If you read the Quran, you really can’t have both of these.

My wife's family lost a fortune when they fled Iran as the Shah was ousted. Really wonderful people and she still has family there. I hope they can finally get their freedom and the wife can take me on a tour there once it's "free".

Iran may very well be a step to far for the Axis of Evil. Normally, I would expect Russia to intervene but with the Ukraine, their options are limited to non-existent. China, this far, has stayed out of direct intervention outside of this kind. Will they finally take the step?

I think a lot of people are ignorant toward Iran, they assume that because it's in the Middle East that it's just another Iraq or Afghanistan when in reality that's far from true. Persians are a lot more educated and civilized than other groups from the ME. It's a "Muslim" country but Persians are way more relaxed about it. I saw something the other day that said only like 47% of the population consider themselves religious. The people there really aren't religious at all, especially the younger generation. Iran has a bad reputation because of the government and I don't think there's another country in the world where there's a bigger contrast in mindset between the government and people.

If they can topple this regime and have someone like Pahlavi oversee a democratic transition it would be massive. A pro-West Iran would be huge for stability in the ME and it would be huge for the US

China won’t swoop in for Iran. Iran is closer with Russia than China. China likes Iran because they are aligned against the US and they buy discounted oil from them

But now they get discounted oil from Russia. China is also working on building tighter relations with Saudi Arabia, who wouldn’t shed any tears over Iran falling.

I think they stay out of it. Iran doesn’t have anyone to save them if the protests get bigger

They are already out of the regime's hands. Tabriz is a commercial center, per my friend comparable to Wall Street. It controls trade on the Caspian as well.

I think your friend is wrong on the cities to the South, especially Qom and Isfahan. If they go, you'll hear about it all over the news because that begins a rock n roll period and all outsiders would do well to stay out of it because it will get bloody.

If Tabriz truly gets out of hand things are just merely interesting. If Tehran and the Southern cities blow up...and I mean really blow up then I wouldn't want to be a mullah......any mullah. Qom is the holy city, so if that blows up watch out.
