Is anyone here not happy that Maduro was removed?

I appreciate Chicken providing this platform. I enjoy hearing different opinions and learning from all.

The discussion gets bogged down, however, when people misrepresent our disagreements. So, to clarify on Venezuela, does anybody think that it's a bad thing that Maduro was removed?

I certainly don't. Trump and his Administration did a fantastic job of removing him with only around 40 deaths, none of them Americans (contrast that with the arrest of Norreiga...EXACTLY, weird huh?, thirty years prior).

I’m reserving final judgment until we get more clarity on what comes next. As of this morning, I’m happy.

Trump has to be very careful moving forward. The MIC and other bad actors are already calling for an extended occupation.

THAT is the issue.

In isolation, Maduro being removed is great.

From an objective analysis, it's not that clear. Removing Saddam and Ghaddafi were also great...in isolation. Big picture did not reflect the same success.

It’s tough to ask that question legitimately when you can’t tell if the dissenters think it’s just a bad move or if it’s a bad move because Trump did it. They’ll all claim the former.

The Maduro Regime remains and that seems to have been the plan. Quite the WTF moment when you realize what they've just done.

Any unhappiness with him being removed is purely based on the fact who it was that did the removing.

Naw.

There is Pandora's Box potential with any regime change.

You are comparing South American Catholic Christians with third world Muslim savages? Bad start..

If you have even a hint of geopolitical knowledge anyone honest understands this changes everything with China, Russia and Iran.

You realize the US has a long history of meddling with South and Central America, right? The vast majority of the time it hasn't ended well.

Changes "everything"? No.

Expands globalism? Likely.

I would like to think that South America is more civilized than the Middle East and North Africa, making it a silly comparison.

The timing was perfect for me since I recently watched a long interview with an econ professor who fled Venezuela. Not knowing about Trump's plan he stated that if Venezuela ever became a free market democracy again it would become the strongest economy in S. America. They have oil, sea ports, agricultural land and a lot of college educated professionals living abroad who may return home to help rebuild.

Again, we have a long history of this in South America. It turns out bad much more often than not.

On this Board, though, I don't see ANY dissenters. We all seem to agree that it's great that Maduro was removed.

The obvious question is "what comes next?"

I’m fine with Maduro being removed, but
I do have concerns about what happens next and the possible blowback in this hemisphere and elsewhere…

Any examples of what you envision as this massive blowback for taking a dictator out of a country?

My thoughts exactly.

Too many just get high off that initial adrenaline rush, and give ZERO thought to tomorrow or next month.

Aside from the failed 2002 coup against Chávez, the U.S. hasn’t backed a regime change in SA since the Cold War. IIRC the last was Peru, and while Peru isn’t perfect, it avoided dictatorship and has a stabilized economy.
