Seems like half the contributors were just guys he brought with him from James Madison. Is he just that good at evaluating or developing talent?

His dad was a head coach at WVU before Nehlen. Curt was a QB at WVU. His brother is a coach for the NY Giants. They guy has been around coaching and football everyday of his life.

well yeah, about half of them came with cignetti 2 years ago from James Madison. Those are the ones I’m really impressed with. This dude got these kids to James Madison then when he took a better job, looked at them and said yeah I can win a championship with that. Cignetti is like a real like cfb 26 dynasty coach takes over historic dog shite program and wins 12 games year 1 and is unstoppable by year 2

He might actually be as impressive as Saban to do what he is doing at Indiana. Portal or not they are a historically awful program. And he managed to go undefeated and beat Oregon, Ohio State and now absolutely stomping Alabama in a playoff game. The coaching from evaluation to development to GameDay prep for that to happen ALL have to be done at an elite level.

I don't know. Can't believe he's 64. He's definitely paid his dues and earned everything he's gotten. Unlike a lot of these coaches.

He learned from Saban. Other than his over the top arrogant responses he seems to do everything the way Saban did.

Some yeah, but not as many as you think are starters/key contributors from JMU.

quote:

In specific games (e.g., a 2025 win over Oregon), at least 6 JMU transfers were on the field simultaneously in key roles.Late 2025 articles highlight former JMU transfers like Fisher, Sarratt, and Ponds as anchors and leaders heading into the Rose Bowl, indicating at least 3-4 remained core starters into the 2025 playoff run (the "current" season as of January 2026).

I mean 5/6 core players is a quite a lot from a g5 school playing on the best team in the county and being the leaders/best players

Despite constantly being told I’m wrong by all the football experts here on TD. I’ve always said that coaching in college football is more important than talent.
