While technically outlawed in Jefferson Parish, you can buy all the fireworks you want in the City of Gretna and Belle Chasse. They had lines out to the street yesterday at multiple places on BC Highway.
In the hours leading up to midnight, it was a steady rumble of booms and pops and pretty lights. I went to bed around 11:30 and was awakened at midnight by what felt like the bombing of Baghdad. It was the most extreme display of noise and flash I've seen in my 21 years in this house. I went outside and could not believe it. It was in every direction. One guy on the next street must have easily spent 5k on this stuff.
I don't get it, but it was a pretty cool 10 minutes.

My neighborhood in BR seemed like that as well. The economy must be great right now as it was multiple mortor type barrages. Hard to pick out the gunshots from all the others.

The Westbank and Kenner are now both Little Honduras/Guatemala/Nicaragua/Mexico

Katy Texas was booming last night too. First New Years Eve in this house and it was pretty f’n active. We had 4 different neighbors that obviously spent a fortune on fireworks and we appreciate that they did.
Hell of a show and I didn’t spend a cent although the streets look like a ticker tape parade went by last night.

Awful to hear. Once they infest they only multiply and destroy the community. I dont care if they mow grass and do shoddy construction. The net net is bad news, see Houston which is now a shithole vs even 15 years ago

Would you rather the sounds of gunshots from the “Chocolate City”?

If it’s outlawed in JP how are sales of fireworks permitted?

Yeah I don't understand this either. We bought fireworks in Gretna last night which is part of Jefferson parish

There’s a number of layers. They aren’t “banned” in all of Jefferson parish.
You are required to have permits such as in Belle Chasse (plaquemines parish) and Gretna to sell.
Metairie(Jefferson) does not allow for the sale of fireworks
Special circumstances such as NYE and 4th of July, it’s essentially specially permitted and allowed to ignite them.
Blanketed as “banned and illegal” across all Jefferson at all times isn’t 100% correct.

Because Gretna basically has tanks and an Air Force. Even JPs don’t want that smoke.

Appreciate the info. Was genuinely curious about the situation. We have some friends in town and their minds were blown after experiencing what went down last night. I’m in JP and last night was on par with prior years. I love the fireworks show and also appreciate people wrapping things up by 1:30am.

Ehh… border patrol got a bunch to relocate. I’ve noticed a difference.

I realize this is very anecdotal, but this at least supports the theory that there is a consumer debt crisis imminent. That’s not a zip code that I feel can afford to light money on fire.
