At least two generations. Ever heard of Leander Perez, the original Godfather.

As an outsider, can you tell me more about this mafia?

His dad was a coach and teacher of mine. His brother was my dentist. Good family.

My wife’s grandfather was Judge Perez personal chef and entertainment man. Talk about a character. Italian and Marine during WW2. The whole lower end of the Parish had some characters back in the day.

Read Blood Moon over Bohemia, which tells the story of the Bohemia Spillway. Names have been changed, but one can easily spot the Judge Perez character. The book was co-authored by Charles Ballay, who is the DA in Plaquemines Parish, and is available on Amazon.

He was hard nosed but did a ton to help the coastal community. His kids are all stand up individuals. Good father.

I don't think that any of the Judge's children are still alive. His grandchildren are probably in their 60s and 70s.

Was an excellent southpaw and overall ballplayer as a youngster.

Re: Plaquemine Parish back in the day, I recommend reading Deep Delta Justice or seeing the film "A Crime on the Bayou", about the U.S. Supreme Court case Duncan v. Louisiana.
