Iowa State has 17 players returning, 1 starter. The transfer portal is ruining CFB.

SIAP, I looked

Jesus

It gets worse every year. It has done most of the heavy lifting in draining my interest in College Football.

Feels like the sport has become Single-A baseball.

We need a 40-50 team superconfence with 16 team playoff and a NIL/salary cap.

Real contracts with no portal

It sucks for the have nots, it’s okay for the haves. If a Power 4 team is getting gutted like this, how does it make sense to have even lower programs (G5) included in the playoff?

If the courts reversed the NIL decision it would be beautiful

It’s all crazy though. Because Iowa State doesn’t have that many guys that are gonna get some huge bag of money somewhere else so I think a lot of people are just transferring just because they can and not because it actually is a better situation for them.

It’s more profitable across the board than ever. That’s what the world is coming to

I've also read where ISU will sign about 50 transfers in the next couple weeks.

One vacancy means an opportunity for someone else.

I would assume some of them are just following their coach.

What do you mean by "across the board"?

You think ISU fans are going to flock to the stadium and buy more merch for unknowns?

What are you talking about? Ratings? TV contracts?

This reeks of ZIRP.

Right, because kids playing well at G5 schools would rather play at a mid-lower tier Power 4 school than a good G5 school.

So the good players from mid/lower tier Power 4 programs and elite G5 players move to upper tier Power 4 programs and the “good” G5 players move to fill in the voids at the mid tier Power 4 programs. It’s also the reason you’ll never really see sustainably “good” G5 programs. Any time they have an elite player, he’s gone the next offseason.

It’s fricking rec ball. Every year you get paired with some new people and a new coach and hope you got on the team with the winners.

Going to get worse.. Supreme Court basically made a blanket ruling that ANYTHING that limits a players ability to make money from their NIL is unconstitutional..

Unlimited eligibility.. unlimited transfer windows.. mid-year transfers.. pro players coming back to college

Its all coming

An easy solution would be to treat CFB like professional soccer. When a player signs, that team also ‘owns’ the transfer rights. If a guy enters the portal, they can still go wherever they want, but the school they transfer too must pay the pre set transfer fee [*based on the player’s premium] to the school he left.

This way smaller schools are incentivized to develop players for big ROIs on players, and mid to top level teams get funds to replace a player that leaves.

*Plus you’re. Putting a ‘luxury cap’ on the ‘rich’ teams and will slow them from gobbling up everyone good at once.

College sports are an abomination and I’d give up my VOLS season tickets tomorrow if it weren’t for the fact that it’d be near impossible to renew down the road
