May be the best DB in the NFL in his second year.

He can play corner, nickel, he tackles, he can be on an island, or play in a scheme/zone.

And yet he was a second round pick out of a program that chruns out NFL prospects annually and they usually hit.

But why??

quote:

PFF Grades:

Frequently the highest-graded cornerback in the NFL throughout the season (e.g., 86.3+ overall at points, leading slot CBs in coverage grade ~80.3).

Dominant in both man and zone, with elite run-defense grades making him a complete DB.

Non first round picks turn into great players every year. It happens.

If they put him on punt/kickoff return he'd be the best return man in the league too.

Same reason Shedeur fell to the 5th round: racists didn’t want to draft a White CB in the first round.

b/c he's white... all bullshite aside, there is not a doubt in my mind that many GMs had their doubts about a white DB in the league, b/c well, there just ain't that many, and the last one that there was, Troy Apke, flamed the frick out with the quickness

Tom Brady was a sixth round pick. Drafting football players isn’t an exact science.

Obviously a consiracy of some kind. I assume you have the insider information on what that conspiracy is. Do share.

Or, other positions are considered higher value, regardless of one's relative ability at their position (13 of the 1st round picks were qb or wr; throw in OL and DL and the one or two true corners and that's the first round). Or, his coaches have taken advantage of his skills, through their schemes and/or his ability, allowing him to shine at his position since they might not think he has a true position. Or, his injury his last year in college gave teams pause. The fact he was taken 40th means he was probably amongst a group of players that were grade 1st round but slid because of a variety of reasons unique to each team. It happens each and every year in the NFL.

He's more like the 15-20th best DB in the NFL. He's got a 77 PFF grade playing against lesser competition than most of the top 10, as he's not a boundary corner. Still good.

He was the 4th DB taken. Probably should have gone over Wiggins, but going after Mitchell and Arnold was not really that crazy.

Interestingly enough, he and Riley Moss (both whites from Iowa) lead defensive backs in snaps.

Pula ran a 4.65 forty, that’s part of why he fell.

I do t recall a soul here saying he should be a top 10 pick. Drafting is hard.

Nope and Jack Ruby likely said nothing about how good he’d be during the lead up to the draft.
