What’s the best way to sell my car? With updates to the interior and a new engine.

I bought a 2012 Kia Optima in 2022 and it’s about to be paid off. I now drive a company car so I don’t need the Optima.

In 2023 a brand new engine was put in and in 2024 I had a place install an 11 inch touchscreen for Apple CarPlay and a backup camera.

Car guys-what’s the best place to sell the vehicle and how much should I expect to get from it?

The engine failed and it was under a factory warranty recall.

The touchscreen was because I got a new job and travelled a lot.

That'll make sense, I'm sure someone will offer you 350

See what they're selling for on car gurus with similar mileage. At the end of the day, it's still a 13 year old Kia and a new touchscreen isn't gonna change that

If you want to sell it quick, carvana or carmax. If you want max dollar, Facebook marketplace. You will get no extra value out of the touchscreen, and I’m not quite sure how much a new engine helps a 2012 Kia.

You should check Kelly Blue Book for the approximate value.

Then go to car gurus dot com and see what others are selling for.

Then you can list it on autotrader or a number of other websites as a private seller

places like carmax and other dealerships will offer you less than a private buyer from an online market place

you can also ship the vehicle to a buyer out of state at a cost if you want to factor that cost into the selling price

probably want to list it a couple grand more than the minimum you would accept as a selling price

hope this helps

Keep it. That company vehicle could be gone tomorrow.

I would think a newer engine with less miles would add value to the vehicle but maybe I'm wrong

Just take it to a bunch of used car lots near your house, take the highest offer. It's not worth dealing with a bunch of weirdos on FB MP for an extra few hundred, even few thousand, dollars.

It’s still a 2012, and should be in running condition if you are selling it. NADA book doesn’t have an add for “New Engine”, so really not an added value. Will still go by year, miles, & condition…

Makes sense. The mileage is what it is regardless if the engine was replaced.

Sometimes. Sometimes not.

The Kia replacements for what was probably the oil burn issue have been very hit or miss and may not transfer to the new owner. Neighbor across the street has had two replacements. The dealership fricked the first one up. I know because I had to tow her from down the street.

The second one wouldn't hold a battery charge as I jumped that one off several times. She eventually got rid of it.
