How much of the designated $25-30 million will that require? How much does it cost to get an entire OL from the portal?

How much were we paying the guys we had, who are leaving, who couldn’t block? Seems like we will be saving money we were paying them to not block and instead pay someone who can block, no?

Solid experienced linemen from lower p4 teams cost 400-500k each. All conference tackles cost more than a million. A typical SEC line probably averages 3-4 million. The LSU guys' agents want that kind of money, but they were the worst line and will probably only get 250-400 each on the open market.

I have a family member who is a starting lineman at a p4 school. His Dad and I talked about this at family Christmas.

Yes so we are looking at atleast 5 million on the OL alone? We will also need a few depth pieces

I have been under the impression that Brad Davis was the problem not the 4 and 5 star players we had. So everyone was to blame ? I figured a new o line coach would be able to change it around . I had no idea that everyone sucked and had to go.

Keeping the current guys would not be much cheaper than going in the portal unless the current guys take what they are being offered. Going to be a completely new scheme, so there isn't a huge value in keeping an underperforming group together. New guys might help change the culture.

All I know is this OL was soft, weak and had zero toughness. They will not be missed despite how posters here are losing their minds over it.

We’re paying the guys who left. We’re paying replacements. There isn’t a “free” option anymore.

I’d much rather pay $5M for an OLine that can block;
than $3.5M for one that is the worst in P5.

It’s systemic. Davis was not good at evaluation or development. I don’t think all of the linemen he got were garbage, but they sure as hell didn’t live up to their star rating. He isn’t a good coach and apparently a poor evaluator of talent. None of this is shocking; you need a complete reset on that side of the ball minus Berry, Green and Parker.

They were either misses or were not developed. LK has given them a number based on his evaluation of where they are now.

LK isn't paying 10 cents for a grocery bag and he isn't paying 800k for a lineman with a 58 grade.

It a fan of throwing the baby out with the bath water. You need depths regardless of what you do in the portal. If Moore comes back would have been good to keep Adam’s, Curne and Williams and let them compete with the portal players. Going to need 9-12 Oline on team. I believe it was more coaching and scheme. And some may be looking to see if they can get more NIL but I find it hard to believe that Kiffen wanted every single lineman gone.

To state the obvious, there will be certain positions where we will have to try to save money by finding good value options for cheap. But I don't expect any of those guys to be on offense. It seems pretty clear Kiffin is going to prioritize offense

Davis, and Kelly were part of the problem, but the players didn’t measure up.

Good post. No way we expected to lose almost everyone. The financials don’t make sense for such a mass exodus

I don't know what this year's linemen were paid, but it was made clear to me that they were told to take a pay cut to stay or hit the door...

During an interview on the radio call last night , Kiffin stated that many of the players announcing intent to enter portal are leveraging for a better NIL deal. He further stated that not all of them will transfer and that he was evaluating which players to negotiate with.

Yes and no. It's not just their ability that you are looking at. Sometimes a chamge of scenery is best for all. You don't want bad attitudes or bad habits coming over from one team to the next. Im sure they've been watching bowl practices and have a good idea of who they want to retain and who they are good with letting go of. It didn't matter so much when these guys weren't making money, now it matters. They have to love football more than money to change their stripes.

I’m curious if Kiffin laid out for them that playtime is over and these players said nope I don’t want any of that. The reports about the lineman not hitting sleds at training still has my mind blown. Our coaches were lazy and uninspired.
