The gun reforms which passed through the New South Wales state legislature on Christmas Eve include capping individual gun ownership at four and reclassifying high-risk weapons like pump-action firearms. The legislation also tightens licensing by reducing permit terms to two years, restricting ownership to Australian citizens, and removing the review pathway for license denials. “Gun reform alone will not solve hatred or extremism, but we can’t fail to act on restricting access to weapons which could lead to further violence against our citizens, Minns said earlier in the week when introducing the proposed laws. Other new laws will ban the public display of terrorist symbols and grant police expanded powers to restrict public gatherings in specific areas following terrorist incidents. Albanese has also announced plans to tighten Australia’s already strict gun laws.

Gun-control advocacy is a religion of ignorance, sad that Australians are so willing to put up with it.

Great job at addressing the actual problem.

Another win for Progressives. Muslim allies kill the infidel, then the infidel has more rights restricted.

Good job, lefties! We dare to notice your pattern of fascism.

How will you replicate this in the US eventually?

Gov super duper doesn't want citizens to have guns.

But criminals? Meh.

In other words, only law abiding citizens will suffer a loss of freedom.

Wasn't the son using a bolt action? Is that a high risk weapon? Cause if it isn't, what's the point?

Citizens have no recourse. Nice.

Oh, and who makes that list now?

Sheep learned nothing from their government response to COVID. There are a ton of Asians in Australia, which has pushed a good bit of the electorate harder towards collectivism.

But how strict are their immigration policies and how well do they control their borders?

Thankfully we are moving (slowly) towards common sense laws our self. I’m not saying we need to be like Australia. But our own failure to act means the continued school shootings, etc., are on our politician’s hands.

Trump was almost killed himself for christsake. Common sense gun laws could have protected him.

Close.

It’s about the transfer of power from the individual to the state.

The only thing that ever changes are the justifications the state tries to give the individual for the power transfer.

Typical.... create more laws that those that mean harm will promptly ignore...while punishing your law abiding citizens and exerting more control over them... meanwhile immigrants are running wild.

I bet displaying this would get you arrested in Australia, further demonstrating that they are in fact an authoritarian state.

Australia has gone too far but they have good principles.

I grew up shooting and hunting, and I could do all of that with small caliber semi-automatic weapons that hold a small number of rounds. No need for max capacity clips. If you’re going to keep them, require specialized registration, training, and a requirement to lock them up or the owner faces criminal liability.

I’m thinking of how many kids get hold of these weapons and use them to shoot up their school. In one case the dad even admitted to buying it for the son, although he knew he had emotional problems.

Please tell us what “common sense” gun law could have prevented that assassination attempt.

Assault weapons ban? He could have used a more accurate bolt action rifle instead, you retard.

Good thing the 2nd Amendment wasn’t written to protect our hunting rights.

You are truly fricking stupid.

What is a max capacity "clip?"

3 rds? 5? 10? 50?

Magazines have all kinds of capacity, some for sports, some for hunting, some for protection.

Who determines "too much?"

The worst school mass shooting occurred with pistols, and most likely would not be subject to the regulations you want.
