Hunting a big box on a powerline.
Sitting with my brother from El Paso. He is here on leave from the army. Thanksgiving week took him and he shot his first deer first morning sit. Then a fork horn the following day. His first 3 hunts saw 14 deer. Drove back to El Paso the Sunday following and that Monday went and bought the same rifle I have.
So he is hunting with a encore 300 wm.
He is addicted.
Drove back a few days ago and staying until then 5th. So hopefully one of the two bucks I have been hunting steps out because I told him he has the green light. I would rather him shoot it while I am with him then me shoot it by myself.

Tree stand in oak flat

I'm FINALLY seeing buck moving in daylight on my cameras and it feels like the rut is about to kick in here.

Area 4, public.
Last day of rifle
Hot and sweaty.
Saddle on a slough, with the Henry 30-30
next to private land that had two shooting lanes and a shooting house. I know they’ve got to be feeding. Looking for meat!

Back at it in North Caddo Parish
Same old BPS 12 with #4 buck
All we ran this morning was a hog out of the block.
Headed to Zwolle tomorrow to run on a big lease I’ve never been to before.

Area 6 public
70° S wind
28 nosler, suppressed
Been a busy few days. Left the house at 1:30am Friday, drove over 3 hours north and hunted one of the public pieces all day. After the evening hunt I hooked up the camper(left it for a couple days while doing Christmas stuff), then drove 2.5 hours back south to my buddy’s camp. Hunted yesterday with him, they ran dogs in the morning, then we still hunted the evening. Saw some deer but no shooters. Got back to the camp after the evening hunt, showered, then headed 1.5 hours back north to this piece of public.
Set up in the blind this morning. Haven’t seen anything yet. Gonna give it another hour then I’m going scout and try to find some spots to hunt this week in the cold weather.
Hell yeah man, that’s what it’s all about! Since I hunt public land, I don’t often share spots or info with people, but when my brothers get the chance to join me, I always try to put them in the best areas I know. I get more excited about them killing a deer, than I do when I kill one.

Cousin’s husband killed a 210 pound 9 point this morning. Heaviest deer we have on record on our farm. He was after a bear but I can’t blame him for shooting this one. Guy had never hunted before the bear tag. Him and his son have killed 2 does and heaviest deer ever on our property. I’m happy for him but damn the randomness of deer hunting.

I hope they are moving for y'all. I am skipping today with 74 degrees and too much wind. Didn't see anything yesterday. I think I have my plan for spots tomorrow afternoon and then Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Season over here in a week, except a youth weekend the next one. Would like 1 more, but it is what it is. Hard to set expectations with animals, weather, and public land.

Tortured myself and watched until the end of the game last night. Decided then to sleep in with the crap conditions. 4 cell cameras had exactly 1 picture of a small doe, so seems as if I made the right call. Will likely try this afternoon.
Good luck and be safe fellas.

I appreciate it! Just took a look at my log book and this evening will be my 50th sit this season, counting mornings and evenings separate. I plan to spend almost everyday in the woods until February 16th, unless I manage to tag out before then.
I was actually after one that was close to a record. He got killed though. That’s how my luck goes. If I didn’t put in the work, I wouldn’t kill anything because I have 0 luck when it comes to hunting

I am lucky enough to be part of hunting club that is all family members. He is my half brother and the family is on the other side but they all know him well. Everyone here hopes he gets one. When he shot his first deer and the small buck everyone was so excited. He got blood on his face and all the normal first deer rituals kids get.
We have a really strict rules when it comes to bucks except for first buck. And no one evened batted an eye when we showed up with the 4 point. That's what it's all about.

If I didn’t know any better I’d think you were my dad. That’s his go to. He’s currently shooting a 357 maximum.

In the box for 3, very back of the property. Unbelievably hot, hard to believe tomorrow’s high is predicted to be 46*. South wind picking up, this food plot is pretty narrrow, hoping not too much wind, and I’m downwind of the feeder and plot. Hung a Code Blue wick, we shall see. Did jump 2-3 driving back, still only the single small doe on the 4 cell cameras. Hoping the cold gets them moving again.
